To address feedback from the Closed Beta, Amazon Games is once more delaying New World; the long-awaited MMORPG will now release in late September. Unveiled several years ago in 2016, New World has undergone a tumultuous development cycle that led to other teams within the Amazon Games group having to lend a helping hand.

It initially boasted a May 2020 due date for PC, though COVID-related challenges culminated in New World’s delay to August 2021. In the year and change since then, Amazon has shown much more of the project in action via previews. The online adventure took center stage during Summer Game Fest 2021 as well, with developers offering a deep dive into key facets of the experience such as Expeditions and weapons. Amazon Games later followed the news blowout with a closed beta that lasted from Tuesday, July 20 through Monday, August 2. And it seems the feedback gathered from that period will have quite the impact on the final product.

Two days removed from the end of New World’s Closed Beta, Amazon Games has announced the title will no longer launch on its previously scheduled August 31 due date. PC players can now expect New World to launch on September 28, 2021. A text-laden post from the game’s official Twitter account cites a desire to fix bugs and deliver a smoother experience as the reason for the nearly one-month delay. Player feedback from the aforementioned beta proved especially useful in the decision-making process, too, as developers will make “some improvements based on what [users] encountered during Closed Beta.” The additional weeks of production will also allow the team to address stability issues and further polish the game.

Update: After this story was published, the New World Twitter account issued a correction on the number of hours played. The updated figure of 25 million hours can be seen in the Tweet below.

As the saying, loosely, goes, it’s better to delay a game than rush one to release. This seems the right call, then. Plus, the wait for New World’s arrival has already been long; what’s a few more weeks if it means developers can further iron out any lingering kinks?

Set in a supernatural world centered on mid-17th Century colonialism, Amazon’s New World will drop players onto Aeternum Island, a fictional island located in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s somewhat of a fresh spin on what’s known as the Age of Exploration, though it remains a mystery as to how well such ideas will translate into the full release.

New World will now come to PC next month on September 28.
