Lionsgate unveils The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent red-band trailer finding Nicolas Cage recruited by the CIA for a wild mission. Cage stars in the meta action-comedy as Nick Cage, a fictionalized version of himself who’s nearing the end of his career and reluctantly accepts an offer for $1 million to attend the birthday of superfan Javi Gutierrez. In the midst of befriending Javi, Cage is introduced to CIA operatives Vivian and Ray and recruited to help bring down Javi, who they reveal is one of the most dangerous criminals in the world.

Alongside Cage, the cast for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent includes Pedro Pascal as Javi, Tiffany Haddish as Vivian, Ike Barinholtz as Ray, Sharon Horgan as Cage’s ex-wife Sally, Lily Sheen as his daughter Addy, Neil Patrick Harris as Cage’s agent Ted and Jacob Scipio. That Awkward Moment writer/director Tom Gormican is at the helm for the film with a script he co-wrote with fellow Ghosted alum Kevin Etten. After a year of delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is gearing up to hit theaters in April.

The new Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent red-band trailer features a number of exciting new looks at the meta action-comedy, including a better indication of Cage’s spy story. Previous synopses for the film indicated Cage was being pulled into helping bring down Javi by the CIA prior to accepting the superfan’s offer while the first trailer was largely devoid of any CIA indications outside of a brief tease of Haddish and Barinholtz’s characters. The first Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent trailer also nicely highlighted the level of Cage meta insanity to be featured in the film, though the new red-band trailer doubles down on this element.

One of the more interesting takeaways from the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent red-band trailer is the better reveal of Cage reprising past versions of himself for the film. It was previously confirmed the Oscar winner would have to confront a figment of his imagination manifesting in the form of a younger version of himself, with the new trailer seemingly pointing towards it hewing closely to Cage’s turn in David Lynch’s Wild At Heart. The wait for the film is nearly over as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent hits theaters on April 22.
