While there is a lot of content for players to check out in the main storyline of NieR Replicant, there is also quite a bit of side tasks and quests for players to explore as well in their free time. Those who want can do things like do a little bit of gardening or go searching for the best weapons that the game has to offer. These side activities can provide a lot of very interesting rewards for players who seek them out.

Those who really want to though can actually decide to spend their time fishing in the game. Fishing is something that all players will have to spend a little bit of time doing for the purposes of the game’s story, but there is also a lot of additional content for players to check out with fishing as well. This guide shows players some of the best tips and locations for fishing in NieR Replicant.

NieR Replicant: How to Unlock Fishing and Get Good at It

Before the player can even go fishing, they will first need to figure out how to unlock it. Luckily, the player will have the opportunity to do so fairly early in the game’s storyline when NieR is tasked with going to the Seafront to acquire a fish for his sister Yonah. All the player has to do is speak to the man at the docks and they will be able to unlock the ability to go fishing. After this, the player will be in possession of everything that they need to fish around the world, but to catch fish they need to understand the mechanics of it.

The player will be able to fish at any body of water that they choose. All they must do is approach the water and a button prompt will appear that asks if they want to fish. The player can then press this and choose what kind of bait they would like to use (more on that later). Once NieR casts the line out in the water players then just have to sit and wait for a fish to start biting. After a few moments, they will see the line start moving, and then the bobber will be pulled under the water. Once this happens players will need to press the button prompt again to start reeling in the fish.

In order to catch the fish from here, the player will need to pull their rod in the opposite direction of where the fish is moving while also pulling it back to reel in. The player should try not to fight too hard against the fish though or they risk breaking their line and losing the creature forever. Just watch the health bar that shows up on the bottom of the screen to see if it starts going down while reeling. If it does then the player is on the right track. If not then they should try to move the rod in a different direction to see if that pulls in the fish.

NieR Replicant: Using Fisherman’s Gambit and Bait to Improve Your Skills

The thing with fishing in NieR Replicant though is that becoming good at it is more than just skills and timing. The player will also need to invest a decent amount of time and money into improving their chances of catching high-quality fish. The first step to doing this is completing the Fisherman’s Gambit quests. By completing these quests the player will improve their fishing skill each time, which in turn will allow them to catch rarer and more expensive types of fish. In order to start working on the Fisherman’s Gambit the player will need to return to the area in Seafront where they met the old fisherman for the first time. Here they will find the old man again who will ask for the player to catch fish for him. Each part will have the player catching different types and numbers of fish. All they need to do is go catch them and then return to the old man when finished.

Once the player completes the second part of Fisherman’s Gambit they will have access to all of the bait in the game. The player can go to the Tackle Shop near the beach in Seafront in order to purchase these different kinds of bait. Each fish in the game will require that the player is using a specific type of bait to catch them, so the player will need to make sure that they have the proper type of bait for the fish that they are trying to catch. Players should remember that the only way to catch all of the fish in the game though is to be using bait and by completing all Fisherman’s Gambit quests.

NieR Replicant: All Fishing Locations and What Can Be Caught There

There are several different places to go fishing in the game, and each one has specific types of fish that can be caught. With each location, the player needs to have brought the correct bait if they hope to catch what they are looking for. Here are all of the fishing locations in the game:

  • Seafront Beach – On the beach the player is able to catch Sardines using Lugworm as bait. This is the only type of fish that the player can catch from the beach. Sardines will sell for 125 Gold or they can be used as bait for larger fish.
  • Seafront Pier – If the player decides to go fishing from the Pier instead they will have much more luck. Here they are able to catch the Blowfish (using Lugworm and selling for 175 Gold), Bream (using a Lure and selling for 750 Gold), Dunkleosteus (using a Lure or Sardines and selling for 12500 Gold), Blue Marlin (using a Lure or Sardines and selling for 1950 Gold), or Sharks (Using Sardines and selling for 1250 Gold). Once the player has ranked up completely this is one of the best places to go fishing to rack up Gold.
  • Northern Plains – The only fish that can be caught here is the Rainbow Trout using a Lure. This can be sold for 600 Gold.
  • Eastern Road – The player will be able to catch the Giant Catfish (using Carp and selling for 2250 Gold) and the Royal Fish (using Earthworm and selling for 4000 Gold). This is another really good place to earn a lot of Gold later in the game.
  • Village – Here the player will be able to catch the Carp (Using Earthworms and selling for 100 Gold), Black Bass (using Lure and selling for 1500 Gold), and the Giant Catfish (using Carp and selling for 2250 Gold). This is a great place for the player to go fishing in order to catch Carp to use for bait rather than for selling.
  • Desert – In the Desert, the player is able to catch Sandfish (using a Lure and selling for 2500 Gold), Hyneria (using Sardines and selling for 6000 Gold) and Rhizondont (using Sardines and selling for 15000 Gold). The Rhizodont is the best-selling fish in the game and by acquiring it the player will also get an achievement.

NieR Replicant can be played on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
