Players who have managed to fight all the way to the end of NieR Replicant Remaster will find themselves smack dab in the middle of the Shadowlord’s Castle. This is without a doubt one of the more difficult locations in the game due to the strength and sheer numbers of the enemies that players come across. Everything that players have managed to learn about fighting in the game will need to be employed if they hope to survive this castle.

One of the biggest reasons that this area is so difficult is because there are several bosses that the player will have to defeat in this area and each one is more difficult than the last. One of these fights is against The Betrayers, who are none other than NieR’s former friends Devola and Popola. These two are by no means easy to defeat and the player will need to pull out all of the stops if they hope to make it through. This guide shows how to defeat Devola and Popola.

NieR Replicant Remaster: How to Defeat Devola and Popola

When the player comes across these twin sisters in the Shadowlord’s Castle, they attempt to convince NieR to turn back. Obviously, since NieR is so close to the end of the game this doesn’t work, and the two decide to attack the player instead. This triggers a short sequence of fighting against them that is very easy until another cutscene plays. During this, the sisters will copy Grimoire Weiss’ abilities and for the rest of the fight are able to employ the same magic that NieR does.

The main way that they choose to fight though is by teleporting around the arena and launching energy balls directly at the player when they appear. What the player needs to do is watch for a glowing circle to appear on the ground to show where they will next appear. The player can rush forward and get of a chain of melee attacks on them before they can attack. The player should then dodge backward to get out of the way of their energy ball attack.

When they launch the energy balls the player will want to slash at any of them that are launched their way in order to negate them. In between volleys the player should have enough time to move in a deal some damage before dodging out of the way again. All the player has to do now is keep this pattern up of dodging and rushing in when there is an opening to bring these two down for good.

NieR Replicant Remaster can be played on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
