Warning! Spoilers ahead for Future State: Nightwing #2 from Andrew Constant and Nicola Scott

In DC’s Future State event, Dick Grayson’s Nightwing is not only leading Gotham’s resistance movement, but he’s also doing it in style with his own version of the Batmobile. As Gotham has fallen further into darkness under the oppression of the Magistrate, Nighwing has effectively become the leader of the Bat Family members that remain. Grayson has become much more serious and determined as well, holding an anger within that he didn’t use to have before the Magistrate’s rise to power and the loss of Bruce Wayne as the Batman. However, at least Nightwing has a pretty cool car, which he reveals during the Magistrate’s siege in the latest issue of Future State: Nightwing.

With Bruce Wayne believed to have been killed by the Peacekeepers, Nightwing has now become the Magistrate’s Public Enemy No. 1, especially due to his leadership of Gotham’s resistance fighters. While Grayson has long been working in the shadows with his base of operations located within the ruins of Arkham Asylum, he’s grown tired of small conflicts on the fringes. Instead, he’s allowed himself to be tracked down the Magistrate’s forces, determined to take out as many of them as he can in an all-out brawl. However, Nightwing doesn’t end up fighting alone. Not if the Next Batman Tim Fox can help it.

Thanks to the new Batman, Nightwing realizes that he should have relied more on his allies and friends, a classic Dark Knight mistake if there ever was one. As such, Batgirl, Robin, Two-Face, Oracle, Spoiler, Huntress, Talia Al Ghul, Batwoman, and Man-Bat all arrive to engage with the Magistate agents, which allows Nightwing and the new Batman to carve a path and make their escape from Arkham. However, to do so they ride in style, peeling out in Nightwing’s own version of the Batmobile.

After being pursued by one of the Magistrate’s peacekeepers, Nightwing and the Next Batman team up, effectively taking her out like the classic Dynamic Duo of years past. Nightwing also reveals that he was recording the entire event since the siege on Arkham in order to provide the world with an un-doctored and true account of the Magistrate’s real dark actions and injustices, rather than the propaganda and standard Gotham media that’s that the regime has paid for. Furthermore, the Next Batman got to prove himself in this issue, potentially becoming more of an official member in Nightwing’s Bat Family resistance as the fight continues.

In any case, what better way to cement Nightwing’s new position of leadership in the future than with his own version of the Batmobile? Tim Fox is rather impressed with Grayson’s new ride in the issue, and Grayson himself admits that he’d been tinkering with it for awhile, while Oracle also makes the comment that Nightwing had been dying to show off his new car (a siege on Arkham was undoubtedly the perfect time). Despite the fact that Future State will soon be ending, here’s hoping that this won’t be the only time Nightwing fans get to see his epic new ride.
