Marrow Bulb is an uncommon flora resource in No Man’s Sky and one of the Harvested Agricultural Substances used in an array of refining recipes. The Marrow Bulb has a glowing appearance and is actually one of the only materials in No Man’s Sky that is used in refining but not crafting. In No Man’s Sky, anything put into a refiner either by itself or with another resource will always yield something in return, whereas crafting items in No Man’s Sky requires specific ingredients and amounts.

Though Marrow Bulb may not be used in crafting, that’s not to say that players can toss any combination of items into a refiner along with Marrow Bulb and expect to get something in return. Unlike refining Aronium in No Man’s Sky, Marrow Bulb cannot be the refined product of any combination of ingredients because its source cannot be grown domestically. Additionally, only certain resources put into a refiner alongside Marrow Bulb will yield useable items in No Man’s Sky. Another major difference between refining and crafting is that crafting takes place when a player has all of the necessary ingredients and knows the recipe, whereas a refiner will do all of the work for the player if they have the proper resources.

As an organic material, Marrow Bulb can be harvested from the Cave Marrow plant that is found growing underground in No Man’s Sky. These plants are more often than not present on planets in No Man’s Sky that have a higher population or abundance of flora, but Cave Marrow can be found on any planet or moon that has a cave. Caves are considered to be a separate biome on both planets and moons in No Man’s Sky, but the scarcity of caves compared to other biomes is what makes the Marrow Bulb an uncommon item to find.
