Spider-Man: No Way Home concept art shows more details of Green Goblin’s new costume. Willem Dafoe first played Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin in the very first Sam Raimi Spider-Man film back in 2002.

Green Goblin was of course killed by Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker in Raimi’s Spider-Man but since death is a very fluid concept in comic book movies, the character is back for this year’s huge MCU epic Spider-Man: No Way Home. Thanks to the unleashing of the multiverse via Doctor Strange’s magical spell, Green Goblin is indeed not the only former Spider-Man movie villain making a death-defying return appearance in No Way Home. He’s also joined by Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard.

Fans of course have known for months that Green Goblin would be back in No Way Home as the movie’s marketing leaned heavily into the multiple villain angle. Nevertheless, Dafoe’s character remained somewhat mysterious going into the actual release of No Way Home. But fans now have gotten to see Green Goblin and it’s safe to say he’s received some upgrades since Raimi’s Spider-Man. And thanks to some newly revealed concept art featured on Marvel.com, Green Goblin’s new costume can now be inspected in all its tattered glory. See the art in the space below:

Fans who’ve already gotten out to see No Way Home in theaters will understand why Green Goblin’s suit is damaged, showing the purple undersuit beneath the green armor. Other notable details of the costume shown clearly in the new image include Green Goblin’s Doc Ock-like round glasses, as well as the blades affixed to his wrist armor. Of course Green Goblin isn’t the only Spider-Man villain who got somewhat of a redesign for No Way Home. Of all the partially re-conceived villains, Foxx’s Electro may have gotten the most interesting do-over, as in the new movie he is no longer blue and possesses a costume that looks like it could have come straight from the laboratory of Tony Stark.

Obviously when it comes to the MCU the goal is always to find some middle ground between the comic bookish and the more realistic. Unfortunately, sometimes when designers veer away from the comic book concept of a character, something of that character’s charm is lost in the translation. But by and large the makers of Spider-Man: No Way Home did a good job walking the line between creating a sense of character and making things believable. Audiences certainly have appreciated their efforts as the movie is currently breaking box office records all over the world.
