The Honest Trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home is here, brilliantly mocking Marvel’s multiverse movie. Released on December 17, the third solo film for Tom Holland’s web-slinger enjoyed one of the best box office runs in recent years. After playing in theaters for months, No Way Home racked up a total of $800 million domestically, the third most all-time, and $1.8 billion worldwide, good enough for sixth on the all-time list. No Way Home released March 15 on digital where it continued to see record-breaking sales.

No Way Home‘s massive success is easily contributed to its ambition as a multiverse project. Following Peter’s identity being exposed and Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) botched spell, multiple Spider-Man villains make their way into the MCU from other universes, including Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), and Electro (Jamie Foxx). Following the tragic death of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), Peter gets a little help from his Spider-Friends, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who work with Holland’s Spidey cure each villain and send them back to their respective universes.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

After much fan demand, Screen Junkies released the latest episode of their popular Honest Trailer series, this one spoofing Spider-Man: No Way Home. The movie’s multiversal antics are the main source of satire for the Honest Trailer, including No Way Home‘s many jokes, memes, and references to past Spider-Man movies. Check out the new Honest Trailer below:

The trailer begins by poking fun at Holland who has played second fiddle to numerous characters in his past solo movies, such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and now he’s hilariously stuck playing third fiddle to other live-action Spider-Men. The focus later shifts to the film’s various villains, including beloved ones like Green Goblin and Doc Ock who made their triumphant returns, and even less ballyhooed ones like Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Lizard (Rhys Ifans), though none of the ones Sony would like fans to forget about, such as Topher Grace’s Venom and Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin.

As usual, the Honest Trailer also points out a few of its target film’s plot holes, No Way Home‘s biggest offenses being the plot devices that are used to introduce characters from Sony’s past movies. Despite these minor inconsistencies, Spider-Man: No Way Home was a resounding success that could not have wished for a better critical response and return at the box office. Though it is curious how it was edged out by Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead for the fan-favorite award at the Oscars.
