As fans await Nova’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, cosplayer @sconderson brings the cosmic hero to life in a comic-accurate cosplay that showcases his original costume. Richard Rider remains one of the most popular characters who hasn’t had a live-action adaptation in the MCU. But, in the new cosplay, fans get a chance to see his costume in action in a look ripped right from the comics.

Richard Rider’s Nova first appeared in Nova #1 from Marv Wolfman and John Buscema. The Nova Corps chose the Earth-born hero to continue their mission after the group was almost wiped out, granting him powers from the Nova Force, giving him the ability of flight, superhuman strength, and other cosmic powers. Rider would be part of several superteams, including the New Warriors, the Secret Avengers, and the Defenders. Rider’s later stories would be filled with tragedy as he watched the Nova Corps get destroyed on multiple occasions while spending time in the Cancerverse after battling Thanos. In his absence, Sam Alexander would become the new Nova as both heroes have held the mantle simultaneously in the comics.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On his Instagram account, @sconderson shared his cosplay recreation of Nova’s modern Nova Prime costume. In Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Sean Chen, Scott Hanaa, Guru e-FX, and Cory Petit’s 2007 series, Richard Rider’s costume was slightly redesigned as he became Nova Prime. The hero was given a more sleek look with more striking features, including large shoulder blades, a new belt, and an entirely different chest piece with light-like circles. @sconderson’s costume perfectly captures the look, including his iconic helmet with bright white eyes. Check out the talented cosplayers look up close, which shows off the details of the Nova cosplay. Clearly, a lot of work went into bringing the costume to life.

What makes the cosplay great is that it embraced Nova’s comic-book look. The helmet with white eyes is perfect, and the details throughout bring Nova’s 2007 look to life in stunning fashion. While Marvel has hinted Nova will eventually join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with no information revealed at this time, the cosplay should help wet fans’ appetites until an official announcement happens. Richard Rider’s Nova is too iconic not to get a live-action adaptation.
