Octavia Spencer and Kate Hudson talk Truth Be Told’s sophomore season, which premieres August 20 on Apple TV+, in a new featurette video. Truth Be Told is a drama series adapted from Kathleen Barber’s 2017 novel, Are You Sleeping. In the series, Spencer stars as investigative journalist, Poppy Parnell, who voices a popular true crime podcast. Not only does Spencer star in Truth Be Told, the actor is also an executive producer for the series alongside fellow Oscar winner, Reese Witherspoon. Hudson is a newcomer to the cast for season 2; she is playing Parnell’s childhood friend, Micah Keith.

Parnell and Keith have quite the complicated relationship in the show’s upcoming season; however, Spencer and Hudson had nothing but love and respect for each other in Apple TV’s newly released featurette for Truth Be Told. In the video, Hudson admitted that she was initially drawn to this project because of Spencer’s involvement. Spencer was equally as complimentary in the promotional video. “Working with you is one of the most amazing gifts,” Spencer told Hudson. Check out the full featurette below:

Fans of Truth Be Told’s first season can expect an entirely new case for season 2. Season 1 focused on the case of Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), who was convicted of murder, but he asserted he was framed. This time around, Parnell will attempt to help Keith find answers following the murder of Keith’s husband. “I loved the first season, but I feel like we really went there with this season,” Hudson said. Both Spencer and Hudson are excited for fans to put on their investigator hats and try to solve this case as soon as the newest season’s first episode airs.
