Though it’s often fun to be in the middle of the fray during a fight in a JRPG like Octopath Traveler, the supportive classes like Starseer should never be overlooked. These characters are important to keeping the party alive and improving the strength and damage of attacks. Starseer is a hidden secondary job class part of the series of advanced jobs players can unlock in the game. To access the Starseer job and its related skills, players will need to defeat Steorra at Shrine of the Starseer in the Western Wispermill Flats.

While any character can take on the secondary job of Starseer, most players tend to choose characters Ophilia or Primrose for the job. This is because their Divine skills for their initial jobs pair well with the buffs granted by Starseer passive abilities. Starseers also may have one of the most powerful skills in the game despite only having two attacks total. Here are some tips and strategies for the Starseer class in Octopath Traveler.

Starseer Active Skills in Octopath Traveler

Starseers only have two attacks, Shooting Stars and the Divine skill Steorra’s Prophecy. The rest of their skills center around supporting and improving an ally’s attacks.

  • Shooting Stars: Deals wind, light, and dark damage to all foes
  • BP Boost: Allows a single ally to gain 2 BP per turn for 2 turns
  • Divination: Increases a single ally’s critical rate for 2 turns
  • Starsong:  Augments a single ally’s physical defense, elemental defense, speed and evasion for 2 turns
  • Celestial Intervention: Renders a single enemy unable to receive attribute augmentations, or a single ally immune to attribute penalties
  • Ethereal Healing: Regenerates HP for the whole party for 2 turns
  • Moon’s Reflection: Grants a single ally the ability to counter physical damage one time
  • Steorra’s Prophecy: Deals elemental damage to all foes proportional to the party’s current BP.

Celestial Intervention is unique, as it is the only skill available in the entire game that removes buffs from an enemy.

Players will want to focus most on abilities like BP Boost that will increase the party’s BP. Combining a high or maxed-out BP with Steorra’s Prophecy can deliver the highest amount of damage in the game at one time.

Players who make Primrose their Starseer can use her Dancer class Divine skill, Sealticge’s Seduction, along with all of the Starseer skills, can cast buffs for the entire party rather than just the Starseer.

Starseer Passive Skills in Octopath Traveler

The Starseer passive skills can help the Starseer and party earn more BP and help the Starseer dodge some attacks by enemies. The options here are:

  • Hard Worker: Earns additional JP after battles
  • Boost-Start: Adds an additional Boost Point at the start of battle
  • BP Eater: Deals additional damage from boosted skills used
  • Divine Aura: Grants a 25% chance to nullify any incoming damage

Players should note that equipping Hard Worker on other party members does not increase the amount of JP earned; that is a static number.

Extra Experience from the Warmaster job class and Grows on Trees from the Merchant job class are good passives to equip with Hard Worker to earn extra JP, XP, and gold from every battle.

Players who make their faster characters a Starseer can use Divine Aura to ensure they always dodge attacks.

Starseer Equipment in Octopath Traveler

Generally, the Starseer can use polearms or daggers in the game. They can also have a shield.

Starseers should wear armor, hats, and accessories that add to their HP or defense. Given they don’t have many attacks to defend themselves, choosing the right equipment is important. Some players choose to use items that increase the strength of elemental attacks as well to improve the Shooting Stars ability.
