According to The Office actor Andy Buckley, who played Dunder Mifflin’s former CEO David Wallace, one of Dunder Mifflin’s very own may have been the infamous Scranton Strangler. Eight years after its ninth and final season, fans and stars of The Office continue to discuss the series and all of its juicy behind-the-scenes secrets to this day. Adapted from Ricky Gervais’ UK version of the same name, the US series unsurprisingly boasted 42 nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards, with a total of five wins. Formerly one of Netflix’s most popular binging shows, fans can still get their fix on NBC’s Peacock streaming platform.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Throughout the course of just over 200 episodes, there had been a number of recurring jokes and several ongoing storylines, one of which included the notorious “Scranton Strangler,” bringing a handful of fan theories. Never actually putting a face to the name, the show introduced the character in season 6 after the birth of Jim and Pam Halbert’s baby. In an effort to commemorate the birth date of their daughter Cecilia, Andy bought a copy of the newspaper that day; unfortunately, the newspaper’s headline was “Scranton Strangler Strikes Again.” Fans soon became familiarized with Scranton’s notorious serial killer from various mentions in episodes that followed thereafter.

Buckley tweeted (via Mashable) in response to a fan’s allegations that the Scranton Strangler was none other than David Wallace. Without providing a complete affirmation, Buckley did highlight reasons as to why it would make sense that Wallace was the killer. Though the Twitter exchange was from February of last year, even today, die hard fans will inevitably be hard-pressed to investigate this theory further. Check out Buckley’s official tweet below:

Jules Suzdaltsev, a Vice columnist who posted the initial tweet pointing to Wallace, explained what brought him to the conclusion that Wallace was the killer. He mentioned the Patrick Bateman vibes Wallace gives off and questioned why he lets Michael get away with messing up so many times. Suzdaltsev theorized it’s because he needed a reason to be in Scranton and the Dunder Mifflin branch serves as a legitimate alibi.

This bit of news may come as a shock to fans of the show, as Wallace may have not been the first one on everyone’s radar. But a case could be argued for almost any character. Creed’s inherent sketchiness speaks volumes in and of itself. Between Toby’s down-and-out persona alongside his disbelief that the convicted suspect was the killer could make him a close contender as well. Many have even conjured up valid reasons pointing to Andy and Jim being viable Scranton Strangler candidates.

Between Jim’s countless pranks, Michael’s Threat Level Midnight screenplay starring Michael Scott as Michael Scarn, and Andy’s a capella obsession, The Office‘s ongoing jokes for insiders only are arguably what keep fans locked in; it’s rare to come across anyone who casually toys with the show. For those who keep wanting more, there’s been podcasts like Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, and Angela Kinsey, who played Angela. Additionally, there’s The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin. It may have been almost a decade since The Office pumped out new content, but luckily for fans, new fun facts seem to keep finding their way to the public sphere.
