Inner Sloth, developer of the hit indie game Among Us, has posted art that references comedian Bo Burnham‘s recently-released special Inside. The mobile social deduction game was released back in 2018, but the title received a sudden spike in popularity in 2020. Inside, a comedy special that was created solely by Burnham during the COVID-19 quarantine, as released on Netflix in May 2021.

Among Us’ sudden spike in popularity has led to several crossovers with other popular games. A recent crossover involving Inner Sloth’s indie title added an Among Us skin to Fall Guys, allowing players to dress as the infamous Impostor as they compete in competitive parkour. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a Battle Royale platformer developed by Mediatonic and released in August 2020. The recent crossover between the two titles acts as a collaboration between two of the most popular indie video games of the past few years. Now, recent rumors also suggest that Among Us may be crossing over with an even more iconic title shortly. Leaks suggest that an Among Us and Fortnite crossover is in the works, with several suspicious files being found within Fortnite‘s data.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The official Among Us Twitter account has posted a piece of art that references Bo Burnham’s Inside. The tweet announces that the game’s Twitter account manager has returned from a week-long vacation. Accompanying the message is a piece of art that depicts an Among Us crewmate sitting in a dark room before shining a light into a disco ball. Accompanying the art is a caption that reads, “I’m sorry I was gone. But look I’ve made you some content.” The scene and caption are a blatant reference to Bo Burnham’s recent special, which opens in the same manner.

The return of Among Us‘ Twitter account is also accompanied by the promise of a cool announcement, although it is not specified when this announcement will arrive. Inner Sloth recently teased the game’s next big update with a bizarre spacebean teaser video that references the odd shape of the game’s characters. While next to no details have been given about the beloved game’s next update, players are expecting a new map to be among the additions.

Among Us‘ developers have managed to keep two fingers on the pulse of popular culture, as they seem to always be up-to-date on the latest memes and jokes. Referencing Bo Burnham‘s Inside is a way to appear relevant, while also poking fun at the recent lack of content for the game. Since Inner Sloth seems to be self-aware, hopefully, the team will release an Among Us update soon.

Among Us is available on iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch and PC.
