Rumplestiltskin’s son Baelfire aka Neal Cassidy has always been a fan-favorite character in the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time. Unlike his cowardly father, Baelfire is brave and ambitious. His nickname also happens to be Bae, which makes him even more likable.

The older Baelfire is portrayed by Michael Raymond-James while younger versions of the character have been portrayed by three actors namely: Dylan Schmid, Sebastian Wilkinson, Dean Petriw, and Brandon Spink. The following are details about Baelfire that viewers didn’t know about.

10 His Deal With Rumpelstilskin

Rumplestiltskin always kept his word but he somehow didn’t feel the need to so with his son. In fact, Baelfire had the unfortunate honor of being the only person that his father ever broke a deal with.

This happened in Season One’s nineteenth episode titled “The Return.” When a fairy offered Bealfire a magic bean that would take him and his father to a land where there was no magic, Rumplestiltskin agreed to accompany his son. But when the moment came and the vortex opened to take them there, Rumplestiltskin refused to go, leaving Baelfire disappointed.

9 His Address

The address of the adult Baelfire’s apartment was 89 Wooster Street, New York, NY, 10012. This detail was finally seen in the twelfth episode of Season 3 titled “New York City Serenade.”

His apartment was located in a building that is right behind housing the real-life Italian pasta brand Piemonte Ravioli Co. Inc. This business is located in 162 Mulberry Street in New York and was seen in the Season 2 premiere episode titled “Broken.”

The second main character to die was Rumplestiltskin though he was resurrected. Baelfire died after Emma used her magical powers to separate him and  Rumplestiltskin so that Rumplestiltskin could reveal the identity of the Wicked Witch.

7 Age

Baelfire was one of the oldest characters on the show. He was said to be a little over 100 years old. But what about his youthful looks? There was a good reason for that.

The fact that he was in Neverland made him look young though it is also said that he could have chosen to age if he wished. A younger Baelfire definitely looks better. Viewers will be glad that he never chose to be old. Baelfire’s other human form of Neal Cassidy was said to be born on March 23, 1977, which makes him younger.

6 His Least Favorite Meal

In a show about magic, characters shouldn’t really be picky about what they eat. After all, they can always use magical powers to convert any meal into whatever they want. Or can they? Not really. Like other humans, they have their worst and best meals.

Tamara once stated that Baelfire hates mayonnaise and avoid Neal avoids it like the plague. This conversation happened in Season 2’s twentieth episode titled “The Evil Queen.”

5 His Talent

Baelfire was talented in drawing. He could create the best drawings in just a short span of time. This was a talent he inherited from his mother Milah who drew hundreds of pictures too.

The drawings seen on Baelfire’s cave walls all symbolize different events in his life. There was a drawing of a portal which is a reminder of how he was separated from his father. There is also a drawing of Captain Hook and his ship. Then there was a drawing of London where Baelfire resided for some time. There was also another drawing showing the Darling family who Baelfire also resided with.

4 Collection Of Clocks

It’s a tiny detail that’s easy to pass the eye of the viewer. Baelfire had a large clock collection that he had gathered over a period of time just like Mr. Gold and Henry. This detail also came to light in Season 2’s premiere episode titled “Broken.”

Several iconic clocks have been seen on the show such as the Sand Clock and The Clock of Evermore. Each clock tends to represent something different. For example, the Time Clock represented how much time Peter Pan had in his youth.

3 Physical Appearance

A wanted poster for Baelfire’s alternate form Neal Cassidy could be seen in Season 2’s sixth episode titled “Tallahassee.” It stated that he was 5’9 tall and weighed 170 pounds.

The poster also stated that he had a scar on his left arm as a result of a healed knife wound. An additional detail on the poster was that his eyes were brown in color. All these details were hard to notice by just looking at the man on screen.

2 The Meaning Of His Name

According to Emma, “Baelfire” is a synonym for “bonfire”. She says this to Henry in the ninth episode of Season One titled “True North. ” In the episode, she told Henry that his daddy was practicing to be a fireman.

The name can be spelled in three different ways namely: Bale Fire, Bel Fire, and Beal Fire. In the fourteenth episode of Season 2 titled “Manhattan,” Rumplestiltskin stated that Baelfire was a strong name.

1 His Connections To The Series Lost

Strangely enough, Baelfire was quite connected to a popular mystery-drama series. In the episode “Broken,” a Geronimo Jackson logo could be seen on the back of his I-Pod. Geronimo Jackson just happens to be a fictional band on the series Lost.

And in the episode “Manhattan.” the number 23 can be seen at the bar in which Baelfire and Emma are having a chat. 23 is the fifth Lost number. Baelfire’s alternate form Neal was also born in 1977 which is a key year in the timeline of Lost.
