Warning: Contains spoilers for One Piece

In Eiichiro Oda’s  One Piece, a pirate’s name only means as much as the bounty reward on their head. While most of the Straw Hat Pirates have amassed impressive bounties well into the millions, only one has a bounty so low that Luffy and his crew should be embarrassed to even associate with him.

The Straw Hats are a group of misfit pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who aspires to become the next Pirate King. After eating a Gum-Gum Devil Fruit, Luffy gains rubber-like powers that allow his body to stretch to tremendous lengths. His crewmates Nami, Ussop, Zoro, Sanji, Nico Robin, Franky, Brooke, and Tony Tony Chopper, also specialize in unique abilities and various Devil Fruit powers. The well-loved manga is one of Shonen Jump’s longest-running series and the top-selling manga with 215 million copies sold from 2008 to 2018. Despite Oda’s recent hints at the near end of the Straw Hats journey, the characters will continue to live on in upcoming projects like Netflix’s newest live-action series and a Shanks-led animated film.

Along the Grand Line, a pirate crew’s clout is determined tremendously by their bounty rewards. In chapter 801, the Straw Hats’ newly revised bounties appear at the end of the manga’s Dressrosa arc. Revealing several members receiving increases to their bounties including resident doctor Chopper. However, in comparison to his crewmates’ millions, the lovable reindeer’s bounty only came to a measly 100 berries. A shockingly low amount that has zero depiction of his development as a pirate.

Chopper’s extremely low bounty may have to do with his appearance, as many have assumed he was the Straw Hats’ pet raccoon dog. This would explain his previously low bounty rewards of 50 and 70 berries.  Although his adorable physique is misleading, Chopper is an excellent physician and healer of any sickness thanks to his prior training under Dr. Kureha. While also a Devil Fruit user of the Hito Hito no Mi fruit, Chopper can transform his body into a human hybrid making him a worthy adversary in fights in times of need.

During the 2 year-time-skip, Chopper grew to sharpen his skills as both a doctor and devil fruit user on the island of Torino. Where not only did he prevent war between the animal and human populations but also gained new knowledge of medicinal herbs. In terms of combat training, the fellow Straw Hat learned to master his Zoan type Devil Fruit powers in conjugation with his Rumble Ball medicine. Despite his low bounty in One Piece, Chopper has gone up against top threats like Big Mom and continues to prove himself worthy as a Straw Hat pirate with his immense medical knowledge and Devil Fruit powers that call for a bounty that is truly befitting a seasoned pirate.
