Here’s how Pedro died in One Piece and which episode his death occurred in. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s epic manga, One Piece is an anime series produced by Toei Animation that began airing back in 1999 and is still going strong more than two decades later. The series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young lad who dreams of becoming King of the Pirates by locating a fabled piece of treasure known as the One Piece. To that end, Luffy assembles a crew that call themselves the Straw Hat Pirates and sets sail in search of the titular treasure.

Luffy’s seafaring adventures bring him and his crew into contact with the many weird and wonderful characters that inhabit the world of One Piece. One of those characters is Pedro – a half-human, half-jaguar pirate hybrid who is a member of a race of humanoids with animal features known as the Mink Tribe. Pedro is a relatively recent addition to the anime who made his debut in season 18, episode 754 of One Piece when Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates arrived on his island homeland of Zou.

Despite a rough start, Pedro soon came to respect Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates and believed they would bring about the Dawn Of The World – an unknown but significant event that the Mink Tribe have been waiting on for hundreds of years. That led Pedro to join the Straw Hat Pirates in their efforts to rescue their crewmate Sanji from his arranged marriage to One Piece villain Big Mom’s daughter Charlotte Pudding. The mission took him to Big Mom’s lair on Whole Cake Island where unfortunately Pedro’s One Piece adventures came to an end.

Pedro and the Straw Hat Pirates managed to rescue Sanji from Whole Cake Island but got into several scuffles with Big Mom and her allies in the process. In season 19, episode 849 of One Piece Big Mom’s son Perospero trapped the Straw Hat Pirates’ ship the Thousand Sunny using his candy powers so they couldn’t flee the island. Pedro bravely sacrificed himself by igniting a stash of bombs he had in his jacket and although Perospero survived the explosion, the act allowed the Straw Hat Pirates to escape.

Although Pedro was only on One Piece for a couple of seasons, he was a firm fan favorite and his death hit the anime’s fandom hard – so hard, in fact, some fans hoped he could’ve somehow survived blowing himself up. Considering how Pedro’s One Piece death went down, it seems unlikely he’ll come back to life but at least he went out with a bang.
