10 Truth Doesn’t Make A Noise (8.5)

When everyone finds out that Nathan and Hayley are married, they decide to throw them a proper wedding reception. Brooke is convinced Hayley must be pregnant because there seems to be no other reason to get married while you’re still in high school. Hayley’s parents are very supportive of the marriage, while Nathan’s struggle with the whole idea. In addition to her son’s nuptials, Deb is also dealing with her husband who is recovering from a heart attack with a much more positive outlook.

9 The Lonesome Road (8.5)

There are a few new faces in the second season of One Tree Hill. We meet a brother and sister named Felix and Anna. Initially, there seems to be a spark between Lucas and Anna, but by the end of the season, Anna reveals she is gay and previously had a relationship with a girl in her old high school.

That girl, Darby, shows up in Tree Hill in this episode and it inspires Anna to come out to her parents, which she does and happily reports to Lucas that her parents took it very well.

8 Near Wild Heaven (8.6)

After Hayley and Nathan have a wedding reception, their high school friends decide to throw them belated bachelor and bachelorette parties, to which they both reluctantly agree. Brooke plans Hayley’s party, while Tim plans Nathan’s, which guarantees a wild night for both groups. Meanwhile, Lucas goes to visit Dan in the hospital after his surgery and is shocked by Dan’s upbeat behavior and apologetic words.

7 Don’t Take Me For Granted (8.6)

Tensions are high in the mid season finale for the second season as the group of friends wake up from the formal dance at school the night before. Peyton has to confront rumors that she is gay while trying to maintain a healthy friendship with Anna.

Nathan and Hayley are having frequent marital disputes, and Nathan breaks Lucas’ trust when he reveals to Karen that Lucas didn’t take the heart test they were asked to take after their father’s heart attack, caused by genetic issues.

6 Unopened Letter To The World (8.6)

Brooke has been elected student body president and the new object of her affections, Felix, throws her a party to celebrate. The high school decides to put together a video time capsule. Nathan, Lucas, Brooke, Peyton, and the rest of the students at Tree Hill High go on camera privately and pour their hearts out. This episode gives viewers great insight into the inner workings of each character, especially Lucas, who has just chosen in court to live with Deb and Dan instead of his mom, Karen.

5 I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning (8.6)

Deb’s brother and Nathan’s uncle, Cooper, comes to town and takes Lucas and Nathan on a little boys’ trip. Cooper is a race car driver and takes Nathan and Lucas to a track to drive some cars. While Nathan and Lucas are racing, Nathan loses control of the car and crashes into a wall.

Nathan is conscious as he is rushed into an operating room and he makes Lucas promise he won’t tell Hayley what happened. We also find out in the episode that Deb has been abusing pain killers when she tries to give blood to help Nathan, but can’t due to her addiction.

4 Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking (8.7)

It’s the day of Jules and Keith’s wedding, which doesn’t go according to plan when Karen and Andy learn that Jules has been hired by Dan to make Keith miserable. Dan has been paying Jules to get Keith to fall for her, wanting to hurt Keith for sleeping with Deb at the end of season one. As one wedding ends, another marriage is on the brink as well, with Nathan very close to calling it quits on Hayley now that she’s left Tree Hill to go on tour. At the end of this episode, Nathan burns the wedding wall and all of his wedding photos.

3 The Tide That Left And Never Came Back (8.8)

In the first part of the two-part season finale, a lot of change is in the air. Lucas decides he wants to take a road trip to New York to see Hayley because it doesn’t feel right to him to have the school year end without her.

Lucas asks Brooke to go with him. They find Hayley with Chris Heller, and the two seem a little too close for comfort. Meanwhile, Andy, Karen’s boyfriend, tells Karen he has to go back to New Zealand to take care of his mom and he wants her to go with him.

2 I Will Dare (9.0)

The new bad boy in town, Felix, organizes a dare night to get to know his new classmates. During the dare night, a lot of secrets are revealed and more new characters are met. Peyton confesses in a church that she tried cocaine and breaks down. Lucas meets Felix’s sister Anna and is immediately smitten by her. For the adults in Tree Hill, a mysterious woman walks into Keith’s shop and the two hit it off, while at the same time Karen meets a new love interest named Andy.

1 The Leavers Dance (9.0)

This season, a woman named Ellie comes into Peyton’s life, claiming to work at a music magazine. In this episode, we learn that Ellie isn’t just a writer, but she’s Peyton’s birth mother. Peyton is shocked by this information. At the same time, Brooke is getting ready to leave Tree Hill for the summer. Lucas meets Brooke just as she is about to get in her cab, tells her how he really feels about her and kisses her, shocking Brooke. Speechless, Brooke gets in her cab and drives off for the summer with tears in her eyes.
