With an exciting and different night for the 93rd Academy Awards, many movie lovers were looking forward to seeing which movie would come out on top. While Mank was leading the pack going into the night with a number of nominations it received, the awards unfolded in a totally different manner.

With some unexpected wins and some total no-brainers, there were movies that definitely outdid the others, and went home with more than a few golden statues. With the most prestigious awards night done and gone, it’s time to see which of our favorite flicks actually came out on top with the most Oscar wins. It was closer this year than ever before.

10 Another Round – 1 Oscar

This film was produced in Denmark, and took home the win for ‘International Feature Film.’ Another Round was an intimate drama that followed four friends, who decide to conduct an experiment after reading a scientific paper on controlling blood alcohol levels.

Although the movie received another nomination for ‘Best Director,’ this movie only scored the one. Still, it certainly left a mark on audiences and is a great choice for an international feature binge.

9 Promising Young Woman – 1 Oscar

Promising Young Woman boldly hit the big screen as a revenge thriller unlike any seen before. Carey Mulligan and Emerald Fennell proved quite the duo, too, with Mulligan earning a nomination for ‘Best Actress’ and Fennell for ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay.’

The flick also scored a nomination for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Film Editing.’ Despite a whopping five nominations, this movie took home one – which was totally deserved, for ‘Best Original Screenplay.’ Some fans were disappointed to see Mulligan lose out, but it was no shock to anyone it won the one it did.

To everyone’s surprise, only Yuh-Jung Youn was victorious, taking home the Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’ This was another category that everyone knew was hers. Despite only winning one, this film lives on in the hearts of movie fans.

7 Soul – 2 Oscars

This Pixar and Disney flick was one of the most popular animated films of the year, so it’s really no surprise it took home the Academy Award for ‘Best Animated Feature Film.’ However, it actually makes the top seven films of the evening – winning two.

Along with ‘Best Animated Feature Film,’ it also won for ‘Best Original Score,’ with Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste walking away with an award.  If movie fanatics haven’t had a chance to see this emotional and wholesome animated flick, now would be a good time to check it out.

6 Mank – 2 Oscar

Mank had an impressive amount of nominations going into the night, and was actually leading the pack. However, it only ended up winning two – including ‘Best Production Design’ and ‘Best Cinematography.’

It perfectly touched on its inspiration, Citizen Kane, and it’s classic and whimsical style was a no-brainer when it came to winning for the actual production and filming. David Fincher’s film is still a perfect binge for real movie buffs.

5 Sound Of Metal – 2 Oscars

Riz Ahmed was making huge waves as the lead actor in this movie. Nominated for 6 Oscars, Sound of Metal follows the life of drummer Ruben Stone (played by Ahmed), who realizes he is losing his hearing after playing in a concert with his band. Believing he will never be able to perform again, the plot then becomes a journey of self-discovery as Ruben adapts to his new experience, with several individuals in a rural deaf community.

4 Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – 2 Oscars

There really wasn’t a question in anyone’s mind that Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom would be victorious for ‘Best Makeup and Hairstyling’ and ‘Best Costume Design,’ which it did take home the Oscar for both.

With three other nominations, fans were definitely shocked that front-runners Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman didn’t win their categories for ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Actor.’ However, fans look fondly at their nominations and still love this deep and stunning musical biopic.

3 The Father – 2 Oscars

The Father might have been underrated going in, but it took home two awards that it so rightfully deserved. While it was nominated for four others, this movie pleased fans for taking home the golden statue for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay.’

While there was certainly surprise that Chadwick Boseman did not win the Oscar, viewers couldn’t help but agree that Anthony Hopkins gave the performance of a lifetime – and also truly deserved to win the second Oscar of the night for this film.

2 Judas And The Black Messiah – 2 Oscars

With 6 Oscar nominations going into the awards, Judas and the Black Messiah was certainly a front-runner for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category. It would go to either LaKeith Stanfield or Daniel Kaluuya, and Kaluuya deservedly took home the win for his powerful role.

1 Nomadland – 3 Oscars

It was no secret for any movie fan that Nomadland was leading in many of the categories. Truly, it was pretty certain in many minds that this simplistic, genuine, and raw flick about life would take home the win for ‘Best Picture.’

However, it won the night, also offering a win to Chloe Zhao for ‘Best Director’ and acting legend, Frances McDormand, for ‘Best Actress.’ While this second win may have shocked, McDormand brilliantly portrayed her character – and is now a three-time Oscar winner.
