Fans were ecstatic when Outer Banks season 2 dropped on Netflix and picked up right where the first left off. Because the majority of shows don’t have narrators to convey internal thoughts, viewers have to count on what the characters say and do in order to figure out who they are.

Outer Banks is easily one of the best Netflix TV shows of 2020, due to the intricately crafted plot and characters. The second season is full of lines that range from hilarious to inspirational, and there are a handful of quotes that stand out above all the others.

10 “Welcome To The Pogues.”

This quote is simple, but the subtext is more meaningful than the text. It didn’t take long for viewers to fall for Cleo after she was introduced in Outer Banks season 2, and the episodes in which she was featured were always entertaining.

Now that she’s stranded on a deserted island along with John B and his friends, there’s no doubt that she’s going to play an even bigger role if the show returns for a third season. When Pope offered Cleo his hand and welcomed her to the Pogues, it signified that Cleo was about to join the family.

9 “He’s Straight Up Like The Spanish. Just ‘Bon Voyage.'”

This particular JJ line is among the funniest quotes in Outer Banks. His heartfelt speech was made even better by his “bon voyage” mishap and the way the actor delivered it.

JJ was so serious and in tune with his emotions that no one wanted to interrupt him to say that “bon voyage” is French, not Spanish. The Pogues’ facial expressions were iconic, and this moment exemplified how well the show balances drama and humor.

8 “Till Death Do Us Part.”

Considering how many times they’ve almost died for each other, Sarah and John B took the term “death do us part” quite literally. It’s easy to forget how young they are because they’ve been forced to grow up so fast, but Sarah and John B are more devoted to each other than most married adults.

Their marriage wouldn’t hold up in a court of law, but that’s what makes it so special. It was based purely on their love for each other and a need to show that their feelings go far beyond those of a normal high-school couple.

7 “He’s Gonna Take The Bridge? He Couldn’t Even Take Me.”

There’s an abundance of reasons to fall in love with Cleo’s character. In the short time that viewers have gotten to know her, Cleo has proved that she doesn’t back down from a fight and she’s willing to put herself on the line to protect others.

JJ usually carries the show in terms of comedy, but now that Cleo has joined the Pogues, he’ll finally have a sparring partner. This quote was especially funny because it hinted at what Cleo and Pope’s relationship would be like during a potential third season. Fans are always drawn to couples who bicker due to how chaotic they can be.

6 “We’re Friends. And That Comes First.”

While this was an important moment for Pope as it symbolized his character development, it’s also true for the Pogues, in general. There are several couples forming within the group, and once John B and Sarah started dating, a divide began to form.

The most important thing for the group to remember is that their friendship is more valuable than anything else. When dating within the group, they need to remember that they’re family above all. Relationships come and go, but Pogues are for life.

5 “Of Course You Think The System Works. Because It Was Made To Protect People Like You.”

Kiara is an especially admirable character because of the way she uses her privilege to help others. In terms of social status, Kiara isn’t considered a Pogue because she lives apart from them and comes from a wealthy family.

Kiara acknowledges that, although the system works for people who are lucky enough to be in her position, that doesn’t actually mean it works. She’s proven time and time again that she would throw away her privileged life for her friends with no hesitation.

4 “This Is The Pogue Life. We Are In The Caribbean. It’s Our Own Little Slice Of Paradise. With My Best Friends, With My Family … I Wouldn’t Want To Do It With Anyone Else.”

While there are plenty of things that make no sense about the Pogues in Outer Banks, their bond remains the heart of the show. Even after everything they went through in the Outer Banks season 2 finale, the only thing that mattered to them was that they were all together.

Almost every main character has had their shot at an inspirational speech, but John B’s is one of the best of the season. The Pogues might be stranded on a deserted island, but as long as they have each other, they’re home.

3 “Do You Have Any Idea How Special Your Son Is?”

It wasn’t intentional, but there was a time when JJ felt like the odd man out of the group. Although they never treated him any differently, being the only single person in a sea of couples can get a bit awkward at times. JJ was clearly affected by Kiara and Pope’s brief romance, but he did a good job of hiding it.

But Kiara and JJ evolved into a single unit as the season went on, and it finally felt like JJ had someone who was willing to put him first. While Kiara’s remark to JJ’s father was true, it was especially meaningful because of how offended she was on JJ’s behalf.

2 “That Is Not How This Is Gonna End. We Need A Freakin’ Win, Guys. I’m Going To Get My Family’s Cross.”

In film, there always comes a point where it seems as though all hope is lost. After getting knocked down over and over again, the Pogues had finally reached rock bottom. It was unlikely that a group of teenagers could retrieve a solid gold cross that was heavily guarded by people who were willing to shoot on-site, but where there’s a will there’s a way.

Pope’s speech was, arguably, the standout moment of Outer Banks season 2. The Pogues have each other’s back no matter what, and they walked out of the church more united than ever before.

1 “I Know For A Fact That All I Got Is You Guys, OK? You’re It.”

It’s never easy watching the Pogues fight, especially when most of it can be chalked up to miscommunication. It was hard to be mad at JJ and Kiara for being late after JJ’s dad had reappeared out of the blue. Additionally, it’s not out of line for John B to be frustrated after almost being eaten by an alligator.

JJ’s speech made it all worth it, as he was able to let everything out and tell the Pogues how much they all mean to him. Their smiles and supportive claps showed that their love for each other trumps whatever petty disagreements they have.
