Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is about to get its first of two planned DLC. Entitled Peril on Gorgon, the DLC will send players to the Gorgon Asteroid to investigate an abandoned research facility. But players will need to have progressed to a certain point of the game before the DLC will trigger.

The Outer Worlds was incredibly well-received when it first launched in 2019. Players awoke from hibernation in the far reaches of the galaxy, decades after they were supposed to have arrived. Things have gone horribly wrong in the colonies in the interim, and players embark on a mission to find a way to save what remains of humanity. The Outer Worlds was somewhat smaller than more recent RPGs, only clocking about 25 -30 hours of content. That size will get a little bigger with the two upcoming expansions, Peril on Gorgon, which releases September 9th, 2020, and Murder on Eridanos coming in 2021.

Players looking to play Peril on Gorgon will need to have completed the quest “Radio Free Monarch.” After that quest is completed, players will receive a delivery on their ship of a severed arm and a recorder, triggering the Peril on Gorgon content. It is recommended that players be at level 20 or higher before tackling the DLC. Players who have beaten the game will need a save file from before the final quest line is triggered, as it is not possible to keep playing The Outer Worlds after it is beaten.

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon Will Add New Perks, Weapons, and More

Peril on Gorgon will add more than just new story content. The level cap will be raised from 30 to 33, and players will find new perks and flaws that can be earned for their character. New armor sets, as well as variants of old armor sets and three new science weapons, will be added to The Outer Worlds. Those weapons will come in handy when fighting new enemy types on the Gorgon Asteroid. Lastly, Peril on Gorgon will introduce audio logs to The Outer Worlds in the form of Portable Phonographs. These audio logs will be key to understanding the mystery of what happened on the Gorgon Asteroid.

All in all, Peril on Gorgon looks like a bite-sized expansion that should keep players busy for 6-8 hours. It will go on sale on Xbox, PS4 and PC on September 9th, 2020, for $14.99, or players can purchase a season pass that includes both DLC for $24.99. Players who have Xbox Game Pass (which currently has The Outer Worlds in its library) will be able to pick up Peril on Gorgon or the season pass at a 10% discount. Those playing The Outer Worlds on Switch will unfortunately need to wait a little longer, as Peril on Gorgon does not yet have a release date for that platform.

The Outer Worlds is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
