Overwatch 2: All New & Returning Characters Confirmed So Far

Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the new year. While earlier rumors suggested it would release in 2020, that’s clearly not the case. Details regarding the sequel have been fairly scarce in recent months, but Overwatch 2 is no ordinary follow-up, as it allows progress, cosmetics, and more to transfer over from the first game. With an already impressive roster of heroes, new characters will be coming to Overwatch 2 as well. Here are all the confirmed characters so far.

After being announced at BlizzCon in 2019, Overwatch 2 promised a new multiplayer mode and new playable heroes, although Blizzard stated the primary focus would still be on the returning characters. It also offers players a fresh take on sequels, since gamers can transfer progress directly over to Overwatch 2. In a lot of ways, Overwatch 2 feels more like a World of Warcraft-type expansion than a sequel, but that’s great news for longtime fans and newcomers alike. It means returning players won’t lose their current progress, but newcomers can still enjoy the content.

Because of the way progress transfers from the original game, fan-favorite heroes will all be returning to Overwatch 2. In fact, every hero from the first Overwatch game will be available in the sequel. So, for players who’ve found a hero they love, that’s undoubtedly great news. It means they won’t have to give up on the character or the progress they’ve made with them when transferring over to Overwatch 2.

Confirmed New Characters For Overwatch 2

While the heroes from the first game are returning, Overwatch 2 will also continue adding new characters to its roster. Echo, a robot programmed with rapidly adapting AI, was added to Overwatch last year. Another new character is Sojourn, who players have known about since at least 2016 when she appeared in the animated short Recall. She was later officially confirmed as a playable character for Overwatch 2 when the game was announced at BlizzCon. This means there’s over thirty heroes confirmed for Overwatch 2 so far. So far, Echo is the newest hero to come to Overwatch, but even more playable characters will be arriving when Overwatch 2 finally releases. Although the sequel will primarily focus on returning characters, new heroes will most likely be confirmed and added in the future. Because of this, the list of confirmed characters for Overwatch 2 will continue to grow.
