During a recent interview, Genji’s Korean voice actor, Gaku Space, made a comment suggesting the wait for Overwatch 2’s release date is still a rather lengthy one. Blizzard Entertainment unveiled Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon 2019, but has kept fans starved for details in the long span of time since then. As a result, very little is known about the eagerly-anticipated follow up title.

More information should surface in the coming weeks, however, considering Blizzard’s plan to showcase the sequel at BlizzConline in February. Fortunately, the ongoing wait for Overwatch 2’s arrival has been alleviated by the studio’s continued support of the original Overwatch with new content. The surprise team deathmatch Kanezaka map went live in December, for instance, around the time that Blizzard deployed its annual Winter Wonderland seasonal event.

Fans who have their fingers crossed for a firm launch date reveal at BlizzConline may want to temper their expectations. Kenji’s Korean voice actor Gaku Space, who also lends his voice to V in Cyberpunk 2077, recently spoke of his work on Overwatch in a PlayersCUT interview. As translated by Reddit user Evenstar6132 (via Game Rant), Space noted that while he’s still attached to the franchise, he hasn’t “heard anything about Overwatch 2.” Space then joked about whether Blizzard replaced him, before once more confirming that he’s yet to record anything for the sequel.

If anything, Space’s comments indicate Overwatch 2 is still a long way out from release, something game director Jeff Kaplan told fans in a December 2020 Developer Update. It’s not too surprising, then, that the Korean actor for one of the brand’s key characters has yet to record their lines. Still, this will no doubt leave Overwatch faithful curious about when exactly the hero shooter’s next outing will finally become available.

Overwatch 2 isn’t the only highly-anticipated Blizzard title veiled in secrecy. Diablo 4’s announcement also blew the roof off of BizzCon 2019. Of course, it, too, is likely years out from release. Blizzard has yet another Diablo project in the works with Diablo 2’s remake, which will reportedly be helmed by Diablo 4’s crew and a team from THPS 1+2 studio, Vicarious Visions. Interestingly, Blizzard absorbed Vicarious Visions just last week, meaning the developer will no longer work directly under Activision as one of its leading development subsidiaries.

Overwatch 2 presently lacks a launch date.
