Ozark season 4 is about to premiere on Netflix on the 21st, and fans can’t wait to see if the show’s money laundering and drug dealing characters are just as cutthroat as before. While some feel that shows like Euphoria glamorize the world of drugs, Ozark gives it a gritty realism, filled with quite a bit of violence and fear.

There are countless showdowns and quick-witted insults that are shot out throughout the show’s three seasons. Some of the characters have always had tough skin and a sharp tongue, and others have been forced to develop them – but everyone’s delivered some pretty ruthless lines.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ruth Langmore

“Quit Parking In The Crippled Spot. What You Got Ain’t A Disability, Just Poor F***ing Judgment.”

Ruth can be one of the most ruthless on the show – pun and irony notwithstanding. She had to grow up fast and force herself to be tough at a young age because of her family and the world they brought her up in, but her tenacity is what makes her a favorite for truly confident Ozark fans.

While she may give out some scathing judgments and threats, she also makes some harsh jokes at the expense of others. In this case, Frank Jr., who Ruth vehemently hated at the casino, is irritating her enough to knock him down a few pegs.

Helen Pierce

“Don’t F*** With Me And Don’t F*** With My Client. They’ll Kill Your Children. They’ll Gut Your F***ing Wife. Do You Want To Know What They’ll Do To You?”

Helen is a tough nut to crack on the show – and one of the most powerful Ozark characters. She seems cold and calculated, with little pity or empathy most of the time, but there are a few moments of warmth from her, like her friendship that she develops with Wendy or the times when the audience gets to see her with her children.

But, her entrance onto the show was a strong one and she made quite the impression. She was professional but not particularly amiable and she gave clear and concise examples of consequences if there was ever a breach of trust, like impending death to Marty and his family.

Wendy Byrde

“People Cheat! They Have Sex With People They Aren’t Married To. It Happens. It’s Not Unique. I Was Unhappy. You’re Not Exactly Blameless In This.”

Marty and Wendy’s marriage has been a rocky road. Things only escalated once Marty had to move their entire family to launder money for the Mexican cartel, but the root of the tension between them was Wendy’s infidelity.

The ruthless thing about this line that Wendy says to Marty right before they try to find a new home is the complete lack of accountability or guilt. Instead of owning up to her cheating and apologizing to Marty, she puts the blame on him as well and acts as if it’s expected for partners to cheat.

Grace Young

“God Wasn’t Protecting You – The Kid Has S***y Aim.”

Viewers wouldn’t expect such a scathing comment from a pastor’s wife and mother-to-be, but this quote proves that people in the community are a lot sharper and tougher than one might expect them to be. Many Ozark fans even think the deceased pastor and his wife deserved more than they got on the show.

Although Pastor Mason was one of the most innocent and pure characters of the series, Grace wasn’t nearly as disillusioned as her husband. She wanted to run to protect her family from the Snells and wasn’t going to let Mason’s naivety put them in danger.

Ruth Langmore

“Let Me Say This As Respectfully As I Possibly Can: Would You Please Kindly F*** Yourself And Leave Me Alone? Thank You.”

The fight against Frank Jr. and Ruth was never-ending, and this cut to his ego was even better than the aforementioned one. The interactions between the two were full of tension and dislike, even during their first scenes together. Frank Jr. may be one of the best characters introduced after Ozark season 1, but it’s not for very good reasons.

When Frank Jr. asks to join the poker tournament at the casino, Ruth tells him the answer is obviously no because of his family’s connection to the KC mob. When he pushes back against her decision, she tries to tell him in the most politely cutthroat way to drop it.

Omar Navarro

“Partners? No, No, No. You Exist For Me To Use. We’re Not Partners! I Own You!”

Omar Navarro is the main antagonist of the series and the richest person on Ozark – after all, he has control over an entire drug cartel and enough assets to make anyone disappear for good if he wants to.

On the surface, he seems nice enough, but lurking just under the surface is a ruthless and dangerous man who will destroy anyone who threatens his position and business. Wendy was overly confident and thought that she could talk to him like they were equals, and he quickly put her in her place.

Darlene Snell

“This Is About Respect. The Cartel Thought They Could Roll Right Over Us. Well, They Don’t Anymore.”

Omar Navarro may be able to appear deceivingly placid on the surface, but Darlene Snell doesn’t have that ability. She wears her emotions on her sleeve and doesn’t think too hard before words travel from her brain to her mouth. In fact, fans think she even has the instincts to win the Hunger Games.

Darlene has proved several times that she’s not to be messed with. Moments after making a deal with Del and his boss, she became so enraged that he called them “rednecks” that she murdered him and his associates. Then, she spiked the heroin supply that the farm was sending out as a message to the cartel sometime after.

Frank Cosgrove Jr.

“Your Problem Is You’re Just Playing Dress-Up. And You Know It.”

As Ruth says in the same scene, Frank Jr. thinks that he can do whatever he wants because of who his father is–including trying to crash the poker competition and causing a scene. This is not the most violent or profanity-filled quote on the show, but the significance of it is a huge insult to Ruth.

Ruth worked her way up from almost nothing. She was responsible, professional, and a total asset to the Byrdes and the casino. Saying that she was “playing dress-up” at her job is the most insulting thing someone can say to a hard worker like Ruth, and it’s why she reacted so strongly and through him over a railing.

Trevor Evans

“I Find Comfort In The Idea Of You Waiting Every Day For That One Slip-Up… Or Betrayal. That One Wild Card.”

Trevor Evans has a very sharp thorn in his side in the form of Marty Byrde and the cartel. For starters, he had previously dated Agent Petty, who was killed by Cade Langmore as a result of the illegal activities.

He also deeply senses that Marty isn’t being honest with him and is determined to finish his former boyfriend’s mission. This is one of the lesser professional things Trevor says to Marty in the third season, but the thinly veiled threat and ominous hope for his demise are pretty strong.

Marty Byrde

“The Satisfying Sound Of Your Lover Smacking The Pavement Is The Only Thing That Gets Me To Sleep Every Night.”

One of the biggest things Marty has dealt with on the show is his relationship with Wendy. When fans were introduced to Marty, he had discovered a video of his wife cheating on him with a man named Sugarwood, and obsessively watched the video.

This quote came on the heels of Wendy’s quote about cheating, which obviously cut Marty deep. He brings up that she emptied their bank accounts when she knew he needed the money and that Gary probably told her to do it. The quote hurts Wendy so much that she slaps and then punches Marty in the face.
