The new Pacific Rim: The Black season 2 trailer shows more of the mysterious Kaiju cult. The Japanese animated series is set in the Pacific Rim universe, first created by Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 film about a world threatened by inter-dimensional giant monsters called Kaiju. Pacific Rim: The Black begins sometime after the events of Pacific Rim: Uprising and follows two young siblings, Taylor and Hayley, who set out to find their long-lost parents who disappeared in a giant monster-fighting Jaegar robot five years earlier. The brother and sister stumble upon an old abandoned training Jaeger called the Atlas Destroyer and use it to survive the Australian monster-infested wasteland. Along their journey, they are joined by Mei, a former mercenary, and a strange mute boy, known simply as Boy, who is later revealed to be a powerful human-Kaiju hybrid.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The official trailer for Netflix’s Pacific Rim: The Black season 2 shows the mysterious Kaiju cult called the Sisters of the Kaiju. Season 1 ended with Taylor and Hayley finding their parents’ empty Jaeger with a frantic message they recorded during an attack. With the video cut off at the end, their parents’ fate remains a mystery. Shortly thereafter, Boy finally revealed his Kaiju form, transforming into a giant horned glowing monster to protect Hayley from a Kaiju attack while three hooded members of the Sisters of the Kaiju cult watch from a distant rooftop. The new trailer promises more intense Kaiju action beginning with a brief scene of the Atlas Destroyer and Boy’s Kaiju form teaming up to take down an enemy monster. But the threat of the Sisters of the Kaiju looms large as it is shown that sometime during the season, the cult will capture the child. The cultists continue to refer to Boy as the Kaiju Messiah, a prophesied chosen one whom they seem to worship as a savior that will lead them, and all Kajiu, into a new era. Although details of the upcoming season are unknown, a recent poster teased a possible reversal by Boy, showing his Kaiju form and the Atlas Destroyer facing off. All questions will be answered when Pacific Rim: The Black season 2 lands on Netflix on April 19.
