Paul Bettany hopes WandaVision isn’t the last time he plays Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming series debuts on Disney+ January 15 and will be the first of several MCU shows created exclusively for the streamer. WandaVision reunites Bettany and Scarlet Witch actor Elizabeth Olsen, who last appeared together in Avengers: Infinity War. In that film, Thanos murdered Vision by ripping the Mind Stone from his forehead. This has created a lot of speculation around Vision’s return in WandaVision and how it’s made possible.

Based on what’s already known about the show, it’s likely Scarlet Witch’s powers play a role. WandaVision will explore her magic in a way never before seen in the MCU. It will help the series stand out from the rest of the franchise, experimenting with style and format in new and exciting ways. WandaVision will explore several different decades and mix sitcom elements with the classic action audiences expect from the MCU. Though WandaVision‘s release date is still a couple weeks away, some are already thinking about what will happen to Vision after the show ends.

It seems Bettany has been asking himself the same question. Speaking with SFX magazine (via ComicBook), the actor discussed his hope for future MCU appearances. When asked about Vision’s fate after WandaVision, Bettany said:

I’m going to not speak on that one. I love playing the Vision. I would absolutely love to continue in some way, shape or form, in the universe. I love this character, and I think that, as you will see when you get to watch this, anything is possible. We can break all kinds of rules. It’s very rich storytelling, and it’s full of many opportunities to tell all sorts of different stories. I love being involved, and it’s been a ride of a lifetime.

It makes sense Bettany is uncertain about his future in the MCU or at least doesn’t want to speak to it at this point. Since Vision is dead in the movies, it’s possible Scarlet Witch doesn’t resuscitate him, but rather constructs his return in her mind. This has been hinted at in WandaVision trailers that have shown a break down of reality. If Vision never actually comes back to life in the show, then it seems likely he’ll remain dead in the future, limiting the possibility of another MCU appearance. It’s also worth noting Olsen is confirmed to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Bettany is not. That movie could see Wanda recovering from her imagined reality with Vision.

Though the MCU has certainly brought back characters believed to be dead in the past, it’s unclear if Marvel will take the same path with Vision. His death serves as a big moment in Avengers: Infinity War, and a true resurrection could lessen that scene’s impact. However, many are excited for WandaVision, suggesting audiences may not care how a return happens, as long as they get to see Vision again. Hopefully, Bettany future in the MCU will become clearer after WandaVision‘s final episode.
