With PAW Patrol: The Movie having been a huge hit, parents and kids might be wondering about the status of PAW Patrol 2; here’s what to know, including news and updates. The PAW Patrol series has been around since 2013 and has spawned a vast multimedia franchise, but 2021’s PAW Patrol: The Movie was the first time it had gotten a feature-length theatrical release in North America. So far, so good: with an estimated budget of $26 million, PAW Patrol: The Movie earned $130.5 million at the global box office, and it’s likely that Paramount+ saw a bump in subscriptions and/or viewership thanks to the movie. That’s all good news for a Paw Patrol 2 sequel.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The story follows PAW Patrol‘s plucky protagonist, Ryder, a young boy who leads the PAW Patrol, a crew of search-and-rescue and emergency services dogs, each representing a different service. Chase is a German Shepherd who works as a police dog and spy. Marshall is a Dalmatian who, as one might guess, is a firefighter dog and paramedic. Skye is a cockapoo and helicopter pilot, serving as the team’s air rescue and scout. Zuma is a chocolate Labrador Retriever who serves as Skye’s aquatic rescue pup counterpart. Rocky is a Scottish Terrier-Schnauzer breed who is a handyman and responsible for recycling. Lastly, there’s Rubble, a bulldog who serves as the team’s construction pup and builder. Newer members have been added over the years, but that’s the core PAW Patrol team that has been together from the start.

The Canadian franchise has been a wildly popular one, both in Canada and the U.S. It originally started out as a wholly CG animation series animated by Guru Studio, but producer/developer Spin Master soon spun it into multiple animated TV movies, a popular line of toys, video games, and even live-action traveling shows like PAW Patrol Live! — all aimed at the preschool-age audience. With the popularity of the series overall, and the success of PAW Patrol: The Movie, it’s no surprise that Paw Patrol 2 has officially been announced. Here’s everything we know so far including the release date, story details, and returning cast.

PAW Patrol 2’s Release Date

The PAW Patrol movie sequel was announced in November 2021. Officially titled PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, PAW Patrol 2 will be hitting theaters on October 13, 2023, and is planned to be an exclusive theatrical release. Spin Master’s plan was always to make multiple movies, so it’s entirely unsurprising they’re already well into development on the sequel. The first movie was first announced on an earnings call in early 2019, but the release date wasn’t announced until February 21, 2020, meaning it took about three years from development to release. PAW Patrol 2: The Mighty Movie won’t take as long to make, however, seeing as how Spin Master already has the tweaked animation style for the PAW Patrol movies figured out.

The Characters & Cast Who Could Show Up For PAW Patrol 2

It can be assumed that the original gang from the first movie will also show up in PAW Patrol 2. The PAW Patrol: The Movie cast of characters includes Will Brisbin as the voice of Ryder, Iain Armitage as Chase, Kingsley Marshall as Marshall, Callum Shoniker as Rocky, Lilly Bartlam as Skye, Keegan Hedley as Rubble, and Shayle Simons as Zuma. The first movie also introduced Liberty, a dachshund voiced by Marsai Martin, and Delores, a “grown-up” standard poodle voiced by Kim Kardashian. As for human characters, Ron Pardo will almost certainly return to voice Mayor Humdinger, the PAW Patrol’s biggest adversary, as well as Cap’n Turbot, the PAW Patrol’s marine biologist friend. Other humans who could return are Yara Shahidi as scientist Kendra Wilson, Randall Park and Dax Shepard as Mayor Humdinger’s security guards, Butch and Ruben, Tyler Perry as truck driver Gus, and Jimmy Kimmel as news anchor Marty Muckracker.

The PAW Patrol 2 cast of actors might also see the introduction of pups who joined the team in later seasons on the TV show, as well as their voice actors. Those new pups include Everest (Berkley Silverman), a Siberian husky snow rescue dog, Tracker (Mateo Carnovale), a chihuahua who serves as a jungle rescue pup and is the youngest member of the PAW Patrol, Tuck and Ella (Eamon Hanson and Isabella Leo), two golden retriever siblings called the Mighty Twins, Rex (Luxton Handspiker), a Bernese mountain dog who is a dinosaur expert and the team’s first disabled member who uses a wheeled walker to get around, and Wild Cat (Tristan Mammitzsch), the team’s first feline member and stunt cyclist. Lastly, there’s Robo-Dog, who serves as a big vehicle driver and speaks only in barks.

What The PAW Patrol 2 Story Will Be About

The end of PAW Patrol: The Movie saw Liberty join the team as a full-fledged member and Mayor Humdinger and his Catastrophe Crew arrested and put in jail for their crimes. However, no PAW Patrol adventure would be complete without Mayor Humdinger and his kitties causing trouble, so it’s unsurprising that the announcement of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie‘s release date confirmed that he’ll be back for PAW Patrol 2. In the sequel, the pups will reportedly find themselves gifted with superpowers after a strange meteor crashes into Adventure City. The end of PAW Patrol: The Movie saw the PAW Patrol pups called in to help with an emergency at the waterfront, and it’s likely that that scene will turn out to be the asteroid crashing into the town.

Initially, their new powers are a dream come true, especially for Skye, the smallest member of the team. But things quickly go awry when Humdinger inevitably breaks out of jail, along with his minions. He joins forces with a mad scientist and they scheme to steal the pups’ superpowers for themselves to become supervillains. It’s up to the newly-superheroic pups to form a new team called The Mighty Pups and stop Humdinger once and for all. PAW Patrol 2 should be a lot of fun as it shows the pups once again saving the day.
