In anticipation of the Peacemaker season finale this week, a new promo video shows how the crew brought Eagly to life. After his well-received The Suicide Squad was released in 2021, James Gunn leads the movie’s follow-up spinoff series, Peacemaker. The HBO Max series follows its title character Peacemaker (John Cena) after he recovers from the critical injuries he received in The Suicide Squad and is forced to join Project Butterfly. Peacemaker’s team that joins him in Project Butterfly consists of Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Amanda Waller’s daughter, who forms a friendship with Peacemaker, Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), a self-proclaimed crimefighter, Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji), the leader of Project Butterfly, and Eagly, Peacemaker’s pet bald eagle and sidekick.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

This week, TV Promos posted a promotional video showing how the Peacemaker crew brought Eagly to life for the series. The video reveals that the crew used both a model made of chicken feathers and dye and a stuffed gray sack as a stand-in for Eagly so that the actors had a sense of where the eagle would be in the space. Then the digital VFX company WetaFX, known for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, builds Eagly as he appears in the scene. Watch the full Eagly promo below:

Since its premiere, Peacemaker has received praise for Gunn’s writing and John Cena’s performance, and Gunn is hoping to build off that success with a second The Suicide Squad spinoff series in development for HBO Max. Although, the Peacemaker showrunner hasn’t revealed any details yet about the show. With the Peacemaker season finale releasing this week, Gunn is also eager to get started on Peacemaker season 2, which HBO Max has yet to renew and bring more wild characters like Eagly to the DCEU.
