It may have been a long time coming, but Pepper Potts is finally returning to suit up in her Rescue armor. Now Rescue 2020 is showing off the first look at how the limited mini-series focusing on Pepper Potts and her Rescue alter-ego fare in the leading role.

Written by Dana Schwartz with art by Jacen Burrows, this new two-issue series will act as another tie-in to the other 2020-themed series that have grown out of Iron Man 2020, a new series that began in January 2020. The Iron Man series had the startling revelation of seeing Tony’s brother, Arno Stark, donning Tony’s armor and Iron Man name and is set to be the foundation upon which a huge Iron Man-focused Marvel event will happen later this year.

CBR has the preview pages, as Rescue 2020 will follow Pepper after she has moved on from life with Tony Stark. However, that doesn’t mean that Tony won’t still have a large role, or at least a looming presence, in the story. It is when Tony suddenly has a meltdown and becomes unfit to handle his Iron Man duties that Pepper is forced to retake her mantle and suit up once again as Rescue.   • Pepper Potts moved on from Tony Stark. She’s getting her life together, finding her place in the world. Unfortunately, that’s exactly when Tony Stark decides it’s time for a full-tilt, full-blown meltdown. And if Pepper can’t suit up and save the day, Tony is toast.

Pepper’s first donning of the Rescue suit happened in 2009, in issue #10 of the Invincible Iron Man, during writer Matt Fraction’s long tenure on the acclaimed series. It occurred during a time when Tony placed Pepper as CEO of Stark Industries and, with her newfound powers in the company, she stumbled upon a hidden room, finding the suit of armor Tony had made specifically for her. Since then, Pepper has put on the armor on many occasions, slowly becoming a fan-favorite new hero as well as an integral part of the Iron Man corner of the Marvel U. Rescue’s popularity has even led to Pepper (played by Gwyneth Paltrow in the MCU) dawning the Rescue armor in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

The ramifications of Pepper’s return to her Rescue suit and its effect on Tony and other Iron Man-characters across the 2020 tie-in series will all be found out soon! Pepper retakes her armor in Rescue 2020#1 out on March 4.
