Following a lengthy wait, Atlus has revealed details on “exciting announcements” that are currently in development for the celebration of Persona’s 25th anniversary. Atlus launched a special Persona 25th-anniversary website earlier this year, highlighting the artwork of main characters across all main installments and teased seven brand-new projects, the first of which would be unveiled sometime in September. With September 20 marking 25 years since the release of the first game in the franchise, speculating fans might finally be able to simmer down after deriving news from Atlus regarding its anniversary.

Released on the original PlayStation as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, Revelations: Persona launched in 1996 and was the first title in the role-playing series to be released in the west. Though distinctive from the rest, it helped establish the series by introducing personas and building the groundwork by creating lore that revolved around high school students confronted by supernatural incidents. This later helped build Persona’s formula, with Persona 3 setting the series aside by being the first title to blend social-simulation elements with Role-Playing dungeon-crawler mechanics. Though the series rose to fame with Persona 4 Golden more than a decade after Revelations: Persona, this formula was redefined with Persona 5, which is awaiting a sequel of its own.

Posted on the official Atlus site, the publisher confirmed some of the celebratory events that fans can expect during the Persona 25th-anniversary in September and onwards, noting that the year-long campaign will have “many exciting announcements for Western fans and worldwide throughout the anniversary year,” including merchandise, events, collaborations, and even game information – hinting at a possible new Persona game or remaster. Kicking off the campaign, the publisher began by confirming that a new and updated Atlus storefront is coming this October. Shop Atlus will be an online store with worldwide shipping that will host a special product collection for the Persona 25th anniversary, with new items being added to the store every week. Several new 25th anniversary desktop wallpapers are also currently available to download from the website.

Additionally, Atlus posted a new trailer on its Japanese YouTube channel revealing more information regarding the campaign. The video introduces Morgana from Persona 5 as the ambassador of the anniversary event, who made two two announcements. Starting with the first, Atlus has revealed that it will be making all past Persona anime series available for streaming in Japan, along with a live stage adaptation of Persona 5. Secondly, a special orchestral concert for the 25th anniversary will take place on November 21 at Tokyo Opera City Hall, consisting of two live performances featuring popular tracks from the Persona series. Morgana concludes the video by confirming that the next announcement video will be released in December.

Persona’s 25th anniversary campaign will be spanning an entire year into Fall 2022. With six more secret Persona projects yet to be revealed, a new installment in the main series is anticipated by some, while others argue that Persona 3 should receive a remake beforehand. Unfortunately, the first set of announcements have concluded, so both groups will have to wait until December to learn more.
