Persona 5 hides one of its toughest opponents within the Reaper. This guide will help players locate and defeat the Reaper. Persona 5 was a smashing success when it released. After the countless delays, fans were worried about the quality of the game when it finally released. Fans quickly discovered Persona 5 to be one of the best modern RPGs to date. This spin-off series borrows its DNA with Shin Megami Tensei, its mother franchise and pulls from Pokemon with combat that depends on typing advantages and disadvantages. Persona 5 tells the story of Joker (his real name is customizable in the game), a teenager who was falsely accused of a crime he didn’t commit. From this, he’s sent to live in Tokyo with Sojiro Sakura, his overseer during his probation period. Persona 5 splits the majority of its time between two different gameplay styles, life simulator and turned based RPG. In the real world, players will build bonds with other characters and strengthen their connections, going on dates, enjoying a bowl of ramen, or playing various sports. In the Metaverse, an alternate reality where people dream and cognitions take physical form, turn-based combat takes over as the player is tasked with stealing the treasures inside various antagonists palaces. One major side quest requires that the player defeats the Reaper, one of the toughest enemies in the game. This guide will help players locate and defeat the Reaper.

In the cognitive world, all the main characters shift their looks and gain new abilities along with it. Each character controls a Persona, some more powerful than others. Joker has the unique ability to use more than one Persona at a time, allowing him the most versatility in combat. Outside of just the palaces, the players are allowed to explore an area called Mementos. Mementos is a special dungeon that connects the entire cognitive world of Japan into one location. it looks similar to the subway system in the city and players can travel deeper into Mementos to discover treasure and secrets. This acts as the final mandatory palace in the game but players can arrive here early on. When exploring Mementos, players ride in Morgana (at this point Morgana is transformed into a car) to quickly travel floor to floor. Deep within Mementos is where players will find the Reaper. This guide will help players locate exactly where the Reaper is in Mementos and how to take it down.

Finding The Reaper in Persona 5

There is actually no specific spot to find the Reaper in Persona 5 inside of Mementos. Rather, in order to get the Reaper to appear, the player must stay completely still for 2 minutes. After a while, chain rattling will begin to sound and as time goes on, the Reaper will make its appearance. The Reaper is incredibly powerful, containing plenty of different attacks and having a massive defensive stat. Also, it is recommended for the player to let the Reaper ambush it. It’s against nature to let enemies attack first, but by letting the Reaper do so, it will only attack once per turn instead of multiple times, making it easier to combat. It is not recommended to try and attack the Reaper at any point during the year, except for Flu Season.

Flu Season is an event that happens during the months of November and December. During Flu Season, as moral is low for the people of Japan who are worrying about getting sick, the shadows inside of Mementos feel that same level of dread. As for gameplay, Shadows are now all set with Despair and will die after three turns. All the player has to do is survive those three turns and the Reaper will be defeated. During these turns, it is recommended to focus primarily on healing and defense. Morgana is an excellent character to have in this situation due to his massive arsenal of healing abilities. While Morgana is healing, the rest of the team can defend or improve their evasion to avoid getting hit. Players should not focus on attacking the Reaper at all, as the Flu Season dread will be the one thing to take it down quickly. This is a great way to quickly grind up some experience fast. Also, the Reaper can potentially drop the Divine Pillar accessory. The Divine Pillar accessory halves all the upcoming damage to the team, making it a perfect accessory to lock down for harder palaces later in the game.

Persona 5 is releasing an updated version later this year called Persona 5 Royal. This new updated version contains small new additions like a new opening theme and intro, a brand new Phantom Thief, Kasumi Yoshizawa, new Confidants, and new content inside of the palaces including new dialogue and puzzles. This is seeming like the definitive Persona 5 experience. It has also been confirmed that the Flu Season method will not work on the Reaper in Persona 5 Royal, so players of that title will actually need to learn the fight. Persona 5 is one of the best RPGs to release in the last decade. The way it combines its turn-based combat with building relationships is one of the games best features. While this is not a new feature for the Persona franchise, as successful as Persona 5 is, it is not hard to imagine that this game was plenty of people’s first step into the franchise. Also, a canonical spin-off is also releasing soon called Persona 5 Scramble. This game takes place after the ending of the original title and rather than turn-based combat, it goes for more action-heavy gameplay similar to the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Joker and the Phantom Thieves find themselves against a giant horde of enemies and must work together to take them down. The game released on February 20th, 2020 and is available on the Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. This is the franchises first time making the plunge to the Nintendo Switch. It is unknown when the game plans to make its way to the west, but many hardcore Persona 5 fans are excited to take another adventure with the Phantom Thieves.

Persona 5 is available now on PS4 and PS3.
