In the new horror co-op Phasmophobia, players take on the role of ghost hunters and attempt not only to find signs of a ghost, but also to gather enough evidence to identify the type of ghost they’re dealing with. Players have access to a range of ghost-hunting tools and will need to work together to figure out where the ghost is located and record evidence that can be sold to a ghost removal team to win. As the players get closer to an answer, the ghost becomes more hostile and will mess with players, often whispering to them, locking doors, and even killing them off one by one. There are 10 different types of ghosts in the game, meaning investigations stay interesting. Players also have full interactivity in the game, as the ghost can even hear them calling its name or asking for a sign and will respond accordingly. Players can even use a VR headset to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

The object of the game is, of course, to gather as much Evidence as possible to determine the type of ghost haunting the home and contract the correct ghost remover. Each ghost type can be determined by different pieces of Evidence in combination. To gather Evidence, each player will need to grab a piece of equipment and document the haunting. Often tasks to collect Evidence will count toward objectives during the game, and the more objectives the team manages to complete, the more money they will earn for completing their hunt. Money can be used to purchase better equipment to gather more evidence and get more accurate readings. Here’s how to gather and use evidence in Phasmophobia.

How to Find Evidence in Phasmophobia

There are several means of collecting evidence in Phasmophobia, and often require some of the professional ghost hunting equipment to detect. The types of evidence players can find are:

  • Ghost Orb: A small, yellow floating orb seen using a Video Camera or Head-Mounted Camera with night vision.
  • Spirit Box: An item used to communicate with the ghost. When the player asks questions near the ghost, if the ghost answers, Spirit Box is Evidence for the ghost type.
  • Fingerprints: Left on objects in the room by a ghost, seen by using the UV Light or Glowstick. Does not count footprints.
  • EMF Level 5: Determined using an EMF Reader. A ghost produces EMF Level 5 emission when it interacts in some way with the room or the Ouija Board.
  • Freezing Temperatures: Determined by using the thermometer. Temperatures decrease in the room where the ghost spends most of its time. If Freezing Temperatures is a piece of evidence for the ghost type, temperatures in the room will drop three times as fast. If Freezing Temperatures is not a piece of evidence for the ghost type, the room the ghost occupies will only ever reach 3-5 degrees Celsius. If it drops lower, this is an indication Freezing Temperatures is a piece of Evidence for the ghost type.
  • Ghost Writing: Determined using the Ghost Writing Book. If the ghost interacts with or writes in the book, this is a piece of Evidence for that ghost type.

Players will need to note each ghost type and the different Evidence combinations that will reveal the kind of ghost they are dealing with.

To most efficiently gather Evidence, each player should select a different piece of equipment and enter different rooms until they find the room with the ghost. Then, each player can enter that room with their equipment to collect the Evidence they need.

How to Use Evidence in Phasmophobia

There are 10 unique ghost types in Phasmophobia, and players can determine which ghost is doing the haunting through the Evidence they gather. The ghost types and their three pieces of Evidence appear below:

  • Demon: Spirit Box; Ghost Writing; Freezing Temperatures
  • Banshee: EMF Level 5; Fingerprints; Freezing Temperatures
  • Spirit: Spirit Box; Fingerprints; Ghost Writing
  • Wraith: Fingerprints; Spirit Box; Freezing Temperatures
  • Phantom: EMF Level 5; Ghost Orb; Freezing Temperatures
  • Poltergeist: Spirit Box; Fingerprints; Ghost Orb
  • Jinn: Spirit Box; Ghost Orb; EMF Level 5
  • Mare: Spirit Box; Ghost Orb; Freezing Temperatures
  • Revenant: EMF Level 5; Fingerprints; Ghost Writing
  • Shade: EMF Level 5; Ghost Orb; Ghost Writing
  • Yurei: Ghost Orb; Ghost Writing; Freezing Temperatures
  • Oni: EMF Level 5; Spirit Box; Ghost Writing

The order players discover Evidence for these ghost types does not matter in determining which ghost is haunting the location. As players earn more cash and get better equipment, they can explore larger and more complex locations, like abandoned hospitals or asylums.
