Phasmophobia: How to Find (& Use) the Music Box

Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia brings new updates, such as a cursed Music Box for players to experiment with during their contracts. One of the six cursed items added with the update, the Music Box, can be very helpful in gathering clues but using it can pose a high risk. Players that activate this item in the wrong place may unwittingly trigger a hunt that can quickly result in someone’s death, which is why finding out exactly how these cursed possessions work in Phasmophobia can be very beneficial.

Phasmophobia is a co-op multiplayer horror game developed by Kinetic Games in which players take on the role of paranormal researchers. The objective is to fulfill contracts by investigating haunted areas and fulfilling specific criteria such as snapping a picture of a ghost with a Camera or finding its fingerprints with the UV Flashlight. Players succeed in their mission when they can collect three clues and identify the type of ghost that haunts the area.

Every time players begin a contract, one of the six cursed items will spawn in the area. No more than one can exist per mission, so players can safely assume no other cursed item will be in the area when one is found. Each item has specific spawn points but can appear in multiple locations on each map, so players looking for one specific cursed item should aim to check its spawn locations first. The Music Box can be one of the most difficult items to find from the Phasmophobia update, as it is a relatively small brown box, but its lid will always be open, which may help players spot it.

How to Locate and Use the Music Box in Phasmophobia

The Music Box is one of the most useful cursed items added as it can help players identify the haunted room quickly and relatively safely. Activating it will make it play a melody that the ghost will sing along to. Players can follow the sound of the singing to identify the room in which it is located. However, it can only be activated once, and doing it without preparation can be very risky as using it near a ghost can prove deadly.

If the ghost is near the Music Box while playing, it will become visible and walk towards it. If it lingers near it for more than five seconds or touches it, it will trigger a cursed hunt in Phasmophobia that cannot be prevented. Because of this, players should avoid carrying it while searching for the ghost as they risk causing a cursed hunt and instead choose a safe area to drop the Music Box in it while it is playing before following the singing.

Asylum

• Asylum location 1: players can find the first spawn location for the powerful cursed item by heading right after entering the building and straight ahead until they hit a wall.
• Asylum location 2: head left after entering the building and look for it along the right wall before turning the corner.
• Asylum location 3: found in the middle of the lobby, a short distance away from the front door.
• Asylum location 4: there is another location in the lobby to the right of the reception desk.
• Asylum location 5: another possible spawn is inside the dentist’s room located to the right of the lobby’s reception.
• Asylum location 6: found in office number three, located to the left of the lobby.

Bleasdale Farmhouse

• Bleasdale location 1: to begin their search for this cursed item from the Phasmophobia Christmas update, look in the northern part of the living room on the first floor.
• Bleasdale location 2: also, on the first floor, players can find another one near the west wall of the office.
• Bleasdale location 3: the last location on the first floor is to the right of the door leading to the bathroom.
• Bleasdale location 4: Players can find a spawn point in the girl’s room to the north on the second floor.
• Bleasdale location 5: On the second floor, players may find the item in the boy’s room to the south.
• Bleasdale location 6: the last spawn on the second floor is to the right of the door that leads to the side bathroom in front of the boy’s room.
• Bleasdale location 7: the final location in the farmhouse is in the northeastern section of the attic.

Brownstone High School

• School location 1: the first spawn location for the Music Box in the co-op horror game is in the lobby halfway along the east wall.
• School location 2: if players follow the main corridor to the right after the lobby, they may find the Music Box on the left, just before reaching the door leading to the cafeteria.
• School location 3: if players proceed through that same corridor, there is another spawn location in classroom five, the third door on the right.
• School location 4: the last possible spawn can be found by instead going left on the corridor and climbing up to the landing between the two floors.

Edgefield Street House

• Edgefield location 1: to obtain the cursed item and fight the now smarter ghosts of Phasmophobia, players may look for it near the north wall of the living room on the first floor.
• Edgefield location 2: the second place in which it may appear is also on the first floor near the east wall of the garage.
• Edgefield location 3: starting on the second floor, right as players exit the stairs, the item may be located to their left.
• Edgefield location 4: if players proceed forward after the stairs, the last door on the right will lead to an orange bedroom with a spawn point to the north.
• Edgefield location 5: the last possible location for the Music Box is in the master bedroom and should be on the left as players enter it, between the two doors.

Grafton Farmhouse

• Grafton location 1: to begin their search for the Music Box on this map and better equip themselves against the updates to ghosts in Phasmophobia, players may start by searching the area behind the stairs in the foyer in the mid-east section of the room.
• Grafton location 2: the second spawn point on this floor is in the middle of the large living room in the center of the house.
• Grafton location 3: the last possible location on the first floor is to the right of the west window in the workshop.
• Grafton location 4: the first chance to find the Music Box on the second floor is right after climbing the stairs to the right.
• Grafton location 5: if players proceed to the right of the stairs, they will find a bedroom where a spawn point is located in front of the south window.
• Grafton location 6: the last spawn location on this map is in the nursery to the left of the stairs, in front of the south window.

Maple Lodge Campsite

• Campsite location 1: players may find a spawn location near the entrance of this new Phasmophobia map, in the northwest corner of the women’s bathroom.
• Campsite location 2: if they proceed to the central path, they will see several tents. One of the locations is inside the red one.
• Campsite location 3: following that path to the left will lead to a campfire where a spawn point is located, a few steps north of the firepit.
• Campsite location 4: if players instead follow the central path to the right, they will come across a big storage tent to their left that may contain the Music Box.
• Campsite location 5: the last location is just outside the cabin near the picnic area, in front of the window to the right of the stairs.

Prison

• Prison location 1: after unlocking this map in Phasmophobia, players will have a chance to find the item right at the start, in front of the entrance door.
• Prison location 2: the second opportunity is in the visitation room, the second door on the left.
• Prison location 3: if players turn left after exiting the entrance into the main hallway, they may find the item a few feet before the door on the left that leads to visitation security.
• Prison location 4: alternatively, players can turn right in the hallway and head to the first door on the right leading to the admin hallway. The location is next to the door, to the players’ right as they walk in.

Ridgeview Road House

• Ridgeview location 1: the first spawn location for this cursed item that helps players detect ghosts in Phasmophobia is right in front of the entrance near the right wall before reaching the stairs.
• Ridgeview location 2: players can proceed left through the kitchen to find a small utility closet, in which the Music Box may also spawn.
• Ridgeview location 3: heading beyond that hallway will lead to the garage and last spawn point on this floor, tucked away in the northeast corner.
• Ridgeview location 4: players can find the stairs to the basement in the kitchen and find another possible location by going right after climbing down the stairs.
• Ridgeview location 5: arriving on the second floor, players should skip the first bedroom and head towards the second door into the girl’s bedroom and look left as they enter it to try and spot the music box.
• Ridgeview location 6: the last location is in the boy’s bedroom at the end of the hallway, across from the door.

Tanglewood Street House

• Tanglewood location 1: unlike newer maps in Phasmophobia, Tanglewood can be searched quickly. As they head inside, players can turn left and look for the first spawn point to the right of the door leading to the main bathroom.
• Tanglewood location 2: to the right of that location is a door leading to a nursery, in which a Music Box may appear as players head inside near the south wall.
• Tanglewood location 3: to the north of the nursery lies the master bedroom. If players go inside, they can find another spawn location a few feet into the room on the right.
• Tanglewood location 4: if players instead follow the entrance hallway and turn right, they will find the kitchen and the dining room. A spawn location lies somewhere near the middle of the west wall.
• Tanglewood location 5: the last spawn point is in the garage and can be found in the southwest corner.

Willow Street House

• Willow location 1: the first opportunity to find the Music Box to help fight the new ghosts in Phasmophobia is just on the left of the entrance as players head inside.
• Willow location 2: proceeding through the kitchen and directly left will lead to a wall in the garage. To the right of that wall in the corner is one of the possible spawn locations.
• Willow location 3: if players instead proceed directly north of the kitchen, it will lead to a window in the hallway, in front of which a Music Box may spawn.
• Willow location 4: heading left from there, will lead to the master bedroom in which players may have another opportunity to find the cursed item in the southwest corner.
• Willow location 5: the last location is in the basement hallway, across the midpoint between the two doors, near the north wall.
