Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s follow-up show to Fleabag has been greenlit and will begin filming this year. Based on her own one-woman show, the dark British comedy premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2016 and quickly caught on for Waller-Bridge’s irreverent brand of humor and frequent fourth-wall breaks. Fleabag‘s second and final season cleaned up at the Emmys in 2019, winning a total of 6 awards with Waller-Bridge taking home three for acting, writing, and outstanding comedy series.

Fleabag‘s immense success led to an increased interest in Waller-Bridge’s wide range of talents. She famously lent her voice to the droid L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story. She is also known as the creator of the popular BBC series Killing Eve, which she still produces. Last year, she co-wrote Daniel Craig’s swan song as James Bond, No Time to Die. Waller-Bridge will also be starring in Indiana Jones 5 alongside Harrison Ford. Fleabag fans have long yearned for a third season of the series which they feel was cut short after a bittersweet finale. While Waller-Bridge is definitively done with that character (for now), the multi-hyphenate has another exciting project in the works that could fill that void.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Deadline is the first to report that Waller-Bridge has a new series coming to Prime Video. The long-awaited follow-up to Fleabag has received the green light from Amazon Studios. The show will reportedly start shooting by the end of the year. Plot details and a title for the show were not announced, nor was its genre.

Unfortunately, there are currently no details regarding the cast, plot, or title of the new show – not even any minor details about its basic premise. This is in firm accordance with the new era of intense secrecy at Amazon Studios, previously illustrated by their highly-publicized Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, which details were also hard to come by during its early stages of production. Even without any ancillary information, Fleabag fans are still likely delighted to hear that Waller-Bridge’s long-awaited follow-up is finally on the way.

The untitled series will be Waller-Bridge’s first for Amazon following her $20 million deal with the studio that she signed in 2019. While many thought that agreement would include a third season of Fleabag, its creator and star expressed a desire to go out on a high note. For the many fans who feel the beloved series was short-lived, her follow-up series on Amazon should act as a decent consolation prize. Considering Waller-Bridge‘s incredible knack for writing both comedy and drama across various television projects, it is more likely than not her next series will become a hit.
