Pikmin Bloom is holding its first community day for 2022 this month and it’s announced a 10,000 step challenge for the event. Pikmin Bloom began rolling out last October for iOS and Android and is the latest AR game from Pokémon GO developer Niantic, as well as the latest in the studio’s continuing partnership with Nintendo. The game is seen to be more casual than Pokémon GO as it focuses on walking or step counting and collecting Pikmin along the way, which makes it a good fit for regular walkers or joggers.

The game’s previous community day, held last December, was made available for an entire 24 hours, a first for the game and a very big difference from Pokémon GO’s community days, which are held at a set time interval. The change in the community day’s runtime was due to feedback from players after Pikmin Bloom’s first community day in November. The change was supposedly made to give players more time to complete the community day’s 10,000 step challenge.

GameStop reported on the upcoming Pikmin Bloom community day, which is set to be held on January 22, 2022. Just like December’s community day, it will also run for a whole 24 hours. During this month’s community day, Pikmin Bloom once again challenges players to take 10,000 steps throughout the day; they will be rewarded with a special Camellia Flower Badge if successful. Camellia flowers seem to be the theme for the January community day, as Big Flowers in the game will bloom into camellias if blue, red, yellow, or white petals are planted around them and players will also be able to obtain fruits containing camellia nectar when they complete the day’s challenges. Additionally, seedlings in planter packs will grow at least 1.5 times faster, and players can receive coins at twice the rate, as they will be rewarded for every 250 flowers planted rather than the usual 500 during the community day.

While most of the bonuses and challenges during the Pikmin Bloom January community day look to be achievable at home, the 10,000 step challenge will be difficult for players in areas that have entered a new round of lockdowns because of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19. While some of the game’s features, such as Pikmin Bloom Expeditions, can be done at home, ones that require players to walk outside may be more difficult to achieve at this time without it being a health risk.

Walking 10,000 steps in a single day is already difficult for most people to do out of the blue, and doing it during a pandemic makes it all the more challenging. And since Pikmin Bloom primarily focuses on walking around, it’ll be difficult for Niantic to find alternative ways for players to enjoy the game outside of its core gameplay.
