Peacock has ordered a TV reboot of Pitch Perfect, with the series set to focus on Adam Devine’s character. Devine first appeared in Pitch Perfect in 2012. The a cappella comedy was a bona fide hit, leading to two sequels in 2015 and 2017. Devine came back to reprise his role in Pitch Perfect 2, but the male cast was cut from Pitch Perfect 3, with the film instead focusing solely on the post-grad Barden Bellas.

In Pitch Perfect, Devine plays Bumper Allen, the arrogant leader of The Treblemakers, Barden University’s award-winning a cappella group. That is, until he suddenly leaves the group to become John Mayer’s backup singer. Devine reprised his role in Pitch Perfect 2, returning to Barden University as a security guard. Bumper is also the love interest to Fat Amy, played by Rebel Wilson.

Now, Devine is once again returning as Bumper Allen for a rebooted television series, Peacock confirmed. The series will take place several years after the events of Pitch Perfect, the streaming platform announced. The official synopsis continues, “Adam Devine’s Bumper Allen moves to Germanyto revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.” Executive producer Elizabeth Banks, who directed Pitch Perfect 2 and acted in all three installments, corroborated the news on Twitter, where she confirmed her excitement to expand the Pitch Perfect universe. Check out a statement from Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, as well as Banks’ tweet, below:

“When we saw the opportunity to create a series for ‘Pitch Perfect’ with Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and Paul Brooks plus more earworm classics for super fans to enjoy, we jumped at it. And to top it off, we are so fortunate that Adam Devine is headlining the series and bringing fans the quirky, laugh-out-loud sensibility they loved in the film franchise.”

In addition to Devine and Banks, Megan Amram is joining the series as writer and showrunner. Amram is known for her work as a writer and co-producer on NBC’s The Good Place. She also created and starred in An Emmy For Megan, a comedy web series documenting the writer’s unhinged quest to win an Emmy. With Pitch Perfect in the works at Peacock, perhaps it will inspire more material for Amram’s web series.

Pitch Perfect marks Devine’s first major live-action TV role since HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. On the Danny McBride-helmed show, Devine plays Kelvin Gemstone, the youngest member of a family of televangelists. Both Kelvin and Bumper have a flare for performance, so it will be interesting to see Devine craft his latest brand of showmanship on Pitch Perfect.
