For over 20 years, Pokémon has delighted the video game world with its many different monsters that players can catch and battle with. One particular category of magical beasts that is highly popular is the Legendary Pokémon, which are extremely rare and very powerful. They are often tied in with several legends within the folklore of the Pokémon games, and they usually don’t appear until the end of their specific game.

Their character design is so remarkable that many fans will get tattoos in order to show off their favorite creature. Many of these tattoos are wonderfully designed and offer new variations of these beloved video game critters.

10 Cosmog

One of the newer legendary Pokémon introduced to the game, Cosmog first appears in Pokémon Sun & Moon as the pre-evolution to Solgaleo and Lunala.

While the classic look for the psychic-type creature is primarily dark blue and purple, this creation from Tiggy Tattoos reimagines it in brighter hues and additional twinkles that make it pop. There is even a sun and moon included in the design in homage to the game that Cosmog originated from. All in all, it is a gorgeous rendition of the original character.

9 Suicine

Suicine is the water-type Legendary beast from Pokémon Gold & Silver and is said to be a reincarnation of the north winds. This design from Lilian Raya takes the severe-looking canine form and turns it into an adorable puppy that anyone would want to cuddle.

With a cute pink nose and large loving eyes, this Suicine has warmer tones and an excellent shining jewel effect throughout. Even the additional Pokéball looks like a ruby and sapphire gem, and the neon stars throughout amplify the cuteness.

8 Raikou

One of the three Legendary beasts of Pokémon Gold & Silver, Raikou is an electric type that can fly through storm clouds. This tattoo by Jackie Huertas looks as though it came straight out of the anime.

The details are spot-on, and the colors used are more vibrant variations that make the illustration jump out. The use of lines for this representation makes the overall look much sharper. There are even lightning bolts in the background to depict the awesome power that Raikou possesses.

7 Entei

As a Legendary beast from Pokémon Gold & Silver, the fire type Entei is rumored to make volcanoes erupt with the power of its bark. If the artwork done by Carlos Povar were to come to life, people would be running for cover.

It captures all of Entei’s ferocity in battle, with a fire attack building up and ready to blast out of its mouth. The steely glare from its eyes and the licks of flames surrounding its paws make this image all the more intimidating.

6 Latias and Latios

A pair of Legendary dragon types introduced in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, Latias and Latios are both known for their powerful psychic abilities. These tattoos by Simon Zook stand out not only for their design but their duality.

The artwork is sharp and colorful, with sparkles and swirls that capture the mystic element of these Pokémon. Also, instead of putting both Latias and Latios on one person, it is split between two people, making it ideal for best friends and loved ones.

5 Lugia

Lugia is a Legendary entity from Pokémon Gold & Silver and is considered the guardian of the seas. This design by Billy Tanos captures the immense psychic power that this flying type is capable of.

With its glowing eyes and roaring mouth, it is clear that Lugia is not a creature to mess with. The warm color background of this tattoo adds a nice contrast to the cool colors in the primary picture. There is also a bit of manga iconography included to depict the character’s Japanese origins.

4 Moltres

Moltres is one of the first Legendary Pokémon from the original Pokémon Red & Blue game and is a firebird that lives in the volcanic Mt. Blaze. This particular depiction from Peter Angelfox focuses on the shades of red that align with the creature’s element, and this keeps the overall design looking simple yet effective. The flames in its tail curl around to follow the circular shape in the background, and the spread of its fiery wings make this Moltres look majestic.

3 Zapdos

Another Legendary bird from Pokémon Red & Blue, Zapdos is an electric type who is said to appear during massive thunderstorms. The tattoo created by Minh Kaiju magnifies the shocking power that this bird is able to manifest.

The bright, electric blue provides a great contrast to the character’s initial canary yellow, while the sharp lines of white-hot lightning and the points of its talons make the artwork much more profound. The amount of detail and personality in this particular Zapdos make it seem almost lifelike.

2 Articuno

The ice type from the Legendary bird trio of Pokémon Red & Blue, it is said that Articuno will help those who are lost in the snowy mountains. The bold style of Ivan Pelegrin’s tattoo really makes this depiction of the bird creature pop. It builds on the character’s original ice blue with different shades and emphasizes the overall design with thick black lines.

There are also several excellent details throughout, such as Articuno’s glowing red eyes and the pieces of ice flying about that symbolizes the creature’s abilities.

1 Mewtwo

One of the most popular Legendary Pokémon in the game’s history, Mewtwo was introduced in Pokémon Red & Blue as a genetically enhanced clone of the mythical Mew. What the rough-sketch style of Cristian Carrion captures is the awesome psychic power that Mewtwo can unleash. The black and purple swirls add to the being’s aura of mystery, while its glowing eyes show how intimidating it is. The watercolor splashes that make up Mewtwo’s tail, along with the kanji in the corner, make this an excellent work of tattoo art.
