Cyndaquil is one of the options for starter Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Choosing this Fire-type Pokémon at the start of the journey will determine how the rest of the player’s team will turn out. Team composition is important when participating in Pokémon battles or wild encounters. At the start of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, trainers are given a small tutorial on how to run around and catch Pokémon using Pokéballs. It covers stealth mechanics, Pokéball types, and different types of ways Pokémon will react to the trainer, even attacking them if they get too close.

Shortly after joining the Galaxy Team, trainers will be given the option between three different Pokémon, Oshawatt, Rowlet, and Cyndaquil. Each of these Pokémon were starters from previous mainline titles, making this selection diverse and unique. Cyndaquil made its debut back in Pokémon Gold and Silver as the Johto region’s token Fire-type Pokémon. It’s grown to be a fan favorite and was likely selected by many trainers at the start of this journey, plus evolving it won’t take too long either.

To evolve Cyndaquil, trainers will need to raise it up to level 17, it will then evolve into its second form, Quilava. Fortunately, this can be done within the first few hours of the game. The best way to earn levels in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is to continue to capture other Pokémon while the specific Pokémon the player would like to raise remains in the party. The EXP Share is always on in this title and will give the whole team XP after an encounter is over. Clearing out any remaining research tasks will help as well. These are new challenges given to the player when capturing Pokémon, and clearing them will level up the player’s rank and unlock new areas around the map. There will be dozens of different Pokémon to find in the first area of the game, making it easy to reach level 17.

Evolving Cyndaquil in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Fortunately, it won’t take too long to get Quilava to level up to its final form. In other Pokémon titles, Quilava would instantly evolve into Typhlosion after reaching level 36, but Pokémon Legends: Arceus debuts a new evolutionary form for Typholosion. On the bright side, the method of obtaining it is still the same. The player just needs to reach level 36 and it will evolve into Hisuian Typholosion.

Its design is much more relaxed than its Johto form as its flames have gone out and have passed to the next life. It’s a Fire and Ghost-type Pokémon with weaknesses in Water, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks. It resists Bug-type attacks and is completely immune to Normal and Fighting-type attacks. It will be a solid choice when hunting for other Normal-type Pokémon in the Hisui region. Keep this in mind when hunting down the alpha Pokémon in the area.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
