Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl player recently encountered a Team Galactic Grunt who appeared to avoid the chance to battle at all costs. Team Galactic Grunts are notorious for positioning themselves in parts of the game’s map that force players to battle them, and the Diamond & Pearl remake is no exception to that layout.

Team Galactic members, known as “Grunts,” are riddled all throughout the game’s region of Sinnoh – especially in Eterna City and Veilstone City where the organization has bases. In both Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl and its preceding source material, Team Galactic’s plans extend beyond the region – unlike other villainous groups from other regions and games, like the recognizable Team Rocket. Rather, the group aims to recreate the entire universe with the help of Legendary Pokémon Palkia (in Shining Pearl and Pearl) or Dialga (in Brilliant Diamond or Diamond). One of the games’ primary objectives is putting a stop to Team Galactic’s plans, helmed by its leader, Cyrus.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user DylanHasAPoopie recently uploaded a video of their own Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl gameplay, but with a unique encounter with a Team Galactic Grunt. While running around an area crawling with Grunts, DylanHasAPoopie came across a Grunt seemingly looking around for a battle. However, whenever the player ran in front of the Grunt’s line of vision (which causes the player to stop moving and prepare for battle), the Grunt appeared to avoid them entirely. Even when DylanHasAPoopie attempted to run around the Grunt and into their line of sight, they were unable to initiate a battle. Eventually, the player successfully caused the Grunt’s “!” notification to appear above their head and a battle was set to ensue; but the interaction was certainly out of the ordinary.

While it is unclear (and unlikely) this was due to a glitch, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl had several glitches when it launched earlier this month – some entertaining and helpful, while others were game-breaking. One glitch allowed players to duplicate Pokémon by executing a handful of maneuvers using the in-game PC system. That said, another glitch in the Snowpoint City Gym caused a player to find themselves softlocked within the Gym’s puzzle. All in all, though, the game was a well-received remake of the original Nintendo DS titles, with little to no bugs causing any major issues for players.

Although DylanHasAPoopie’s encounter with the Team Galactic Grunt was bizarre and – had they continued on their journey – probably wouldn’t have resulted in a battle, some players actually prefer to avoid confronting Galactic Grunts in their entirety. With so many to face, and often before a series of major boss battles, it can be an appealing move to avoid Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl battles when possible. That said, it is important to battle as many trainers as possible if attempting to complete the game’s Pokédex.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl is available for the Nintendo Switch.
