Clamperl is a Water-Type Bivalve Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that can evolve into Huntail or Gorebyss once certain conditions are met. There are two ways to catch Clamperl, and both require Trainers to first obtain the National Dex. This Pokédex upgrade is only available once players have finished the main story by becoming the Champion and completing their Sinnoh Dex by seeing all 150 Pokémon in Pokémon BDSP’s base game. Once these two feats have been achieved, the National Dex can be acquired from Professor Rowan and Professor Oak in Sandgem Town.

After acquiring the National Pokédex, Trainers can catch Clamperl by fishing on Route 221 or 219. First, players will need the Super Rod, which is obtained by speaking to a fisherman north of the docks in the Fight Area. Alternatively, Pokémon BDSP fans can catch in several zones of the Grand Underground, including Still-Water Cavern, Riverbank Cave, and Fountainspring Cave. Once players have captured Clamperl, they can proceed to evolve it into one of two Pokémon.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Clamperl’s first possible evolution in Pokémon BDSP is Huntail, a Water-Type Deep Sea Pokémon equipped with Swift Swim as its Ability 1 and Water Veil for its Hidden Ability. Swift Swim increases the Huntail’s Speed by ×2 during rainy weather, and Water Veil prevents the Pokémon from getting burned in Pokémon BDSP. Huntail is obtained by giving Clamperl a Deep Sea Tooth and trading it with another Trainer. To get the Deep Sea Tooth evolution item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players must catch a Wild Carvanha, Sharpedo, or Huntail holding the tooth. On the other hand, players can find a Deep Sea Tooth on the far left side of Fountainspring Cave.

Evolving Clamperl in Pokémon BDSP

The other option in Pokémon BDSP that Clamperl can evolve into is Gorebyss, a Water-Type South Sea Pokémon with Swift Swim and Hydration as a Hidden Ability. Hydration will cure Gorebyss of any status effects during rainy weather, including self-inflicted conditions. Trainers can evolve Clamperl into Gorebyss by using the trading method in Pokémon BDSP. Players have to make sure that Clamperl is holding a Deep Sea Scale during the trade.

The Deep Sea Scale is a rare evolution item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl obtained from catching Gorebyss or Relicanth with the scale equipped. The scale can also be found within Icy Cave, a zone located in the Grand Underground. Keep in mind that the Clamperl can only be evolved once, so two are required to evolve it into both the Huntail and Gorebyss.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available on Nintendo Switch.
