Medicham is a Fighting/Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that players can catch before reaching the seventh gym in Snowpoint City. It’s entry #87 in the Sinnoh PokéDex and entry #308 in the National Dex, and it’s one of Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s heaviest hitters. With its incredible ability to buff its own attack power, Medicham is a great Pokémon to use not only in the game’s gyms and Elite 4 battles, but in competitive play as well. Medicham evolves from Meditite at level 37, but can also be caught in the wild at several locations in the game.

Like its unevolved form, Meditite, Medicham’s signature ability is Pure Power, which allows it to deal massive amounts of damage that is matched only by Legendary Pokémon. Pure Power doubles the Pokémon’s attack stat, and when combined with attack-boosting moves and items, this ability allows Medicham’s attack to rise all the way to 480. With its ability to learn powerful attack moves like High Jump Kick, Medicham can pack some extremely powerful knockout punches, but trainers should be aware that its relatively low defense and speed stats make it vulnerable in battle. Medicham also has the hidden ability Telepathy, which allows it to dodge attacks from allies in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Double Battles.

Medicham can also be traded for a Haunter in-game by speaking with Mindy in the home northwest of Snowpoint Gym in Snowpoint City. However, players hoping that Haunter will evolve into Gengar when traded will be disappointed to find that it’s holding an Everstone, preventing it from evolving. Still, this is an easy way to find an Everstone for players hoping to prevent another Pokémon’s evolution.

Where To Catch Medicham In Pokémon BDSP

The first places that players will find Medicham in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are Route 216, Route 217, and the Acuity Lakefront on the way to Snowpoint City. These areas can be reached by going through Mt. Coronet from the entrance from Route 211 west of Celestic Town. Both Rock Smash and Strength are required to navigate through these caves, so players will have to have beaten Byron at the Canalave Gym before they can catch a Medicham. Medicham can also be caught at the snow-covered peak of Mt. Coronet and on Victory Road in both areas that players can access before and after acquiring the National PokéDex.

As a Fighting/Psychic-Type Pokémon, Medicham is strong against Fighting and Rock-Type Pokémon, but it’s weak against Flying, Ghost, and Fairy-Types, which players should keep in mind while lowering its HP to catch it. A Pokémon with the move False Swipe can also lower Medicham’s HP without accidentally causing it to faint, making it easier to catch. Medicham has a catch rate of 90, and players who search for it in the caves of Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Mt. Coronet or Victory Road will have the best chance of catching it with a Dusk Ball, which is more effective than Ultra Balls at night or in caves. Players who search in the grass should stick with a Great Ball or Ultra Ball instead.

Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available on Nintendo Switch.
