In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the Expert Belt is an item trainers can get and give to their Pokémon to hold for battle. There are plenty of held items to use in battle that can be found throughout the Sinnoh region, whether they’re purchased, picked, earned, found, or gifted. Each held item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has a unique use, and there are some so powerful that they can even influence the outcome of a battle.

One of the specific features of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is that the games retain all of the items found in the original Diamond and Pearl apart from the Ability Patch in BDSP. Only certain items that improve the quality of life were included in the remakes. Nonetheless, the Expert Belt was introduced in the original Diamond and Pearl and has made a return once more.

The Expert Belt increases the power of super-effective moves in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Interestingly enough, that’s all the item does. Unlike the Life Orb, there are no drawbacks to the Expert Belt. While it isn’t used in many competitive battles, the Expert Belt is perfect for Pokémon that rely upon their movepool variety to perform exceptionally. An example of this is one of the best competitive Electric-type Pokémon, Electivire. Electivire can learn Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Cross Chop, and Earthquake, giving it access to moves that are super-effective to many different types of Pokémon.

Expert Belt Location in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

To get the Expert Belt in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, trainers will have to travel to Route 221 and speak with an NPC. This particular character lives in a house with a blue roof, just a few steps west of Ramanas Park. However, unlike the park, trainers can visit this NPC before obtaining the National Dex. The only requirement is to have the Hidden Move Surf unlocked in the Pokétch app. Unlocking HM Surf is a natural part of the story progression, and to use it outside of battle, trainers will have to beat Fantina, a Gym Leader in Pokémon BDSP who resides in Hearthome City.

The NPC on Route 221 will ask trainers daily to bring him a Pokémon between levels 1-100. The levels are entirely random, but the order of gifts is not. The first gift is always a Black Belt, the next an Expert Belt, and the third is a Focus Sash. Trainers do not have to complete this daily to continue the streak; however, the next item will not appear until trainers earn the previous one in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available for Nintendo Switch.
