Those playing Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are poking fun at Legendary Pokémon Regigigas’ waddling walk cycle as it follows players on routes. Pokémon following behind players isn’t a new feature in the Pokémon series, but because each Pokémon has a different size, gait and body type, perfecting walk cycles throughout the past generations has resulted in some hilariously awkward followers. Because Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl doesn’t accurately depict the size of the Pokémon compared to the trainer they are behind, this has created some particularly funny moments with bigger species.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the newest installments in the Pokémon series and have reimagined the Sinnoh region of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2006, gameplay and graphics have changed dramatically in the remakes. However, instead of using the full-body character models seen in Pokémon Sword and ShieldBDSP has opted for a return to top-down gameplay and stubby, chibi character designs. This includes the models for Pokémon, which don’t spawn in the overworld unless players are in Pokémon Hideaways hidden in the Grand Underground.

A player known as JMSX101 on Reddit has shared a video of a particularly funny walk cycle belonging to the 12-foot-tall, near-thousand-pound Legendary Pokémon Regigigas as it bumbles along behind its trainer. The walking animation is particularly slow, with the player’s character regularly stopping to allow it a chance to catch up. Other players in the comments poke fun at the sluggish walk cycle, pointing out it could be a nod to the Pokémon’s ability Slow Start, which cut’s the pokémon’s speed in half the first five turns of battle. However, it can make getting anywhere a long and arduous task with the Pokémon out of its Poké Ball.

Unfortunately, Regigigas isn’t the only Pokémon in BDSP drawing attention for an awkward animation when following its trainer. Ekans, the Kantonian Poison-type based on a snake, has been said to have a Pokémon walk cycle similar to a Roomba. The Pokémon stays coiled up in a pile when moving and seems to awkwardly hover behind the player, instead of unfolding and slinking along in a movement proper for a snake-like creature. These walk cycles have garnered some criticism for unfinished animations, especially because the game includes less than half of the total Pokémon species now in the games after the National Pokédex is unlocked.

While BDSP has had some troubles with its walk cycles, it is possible developers could release a patch in the future months polishing some of these areas. Taking inspiration from the walk cycles used in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee could be particularly helpful, due to the Kanto region-based remake sporting some particularly clean and engaging animations. In the meantime, however, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl fans will have a chance to giggle as their battle companion tries to keep up behind them.
