Pokémon BDSP: Where to Find Oval Stone (& What It’s For)

Players can find the special evolutionary Oval Stone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. As the generations have continued, the series has introduced different ways to evolve Pokémon. For the most part, many Pokémon evolve from reaching a certain level. Only a handful use special methods or evolutionary items to reach the next form. The Oval Stone is a special evolutionary item that only has one purpose in the Pokémon series.

The Oval Stone is a Held Item that was introduced back in generation 4 with Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. If it is given to a Happiny, it will help this Happiny evolve into a Chansey. Happiny will need to level up during the day while holding this item in order to evolve. In Pokémon BDSP, players will be given the Happiny Egg from an NPC in Hearthome City. Head to the eastern side of town to find a hiker standing next to the Route 209 sign. Speak with him and players will be given a Happiny Egg.

Walking 10,000 steps with the egg in the player’s party will hatch it. Now that the player has a Happiny, they can work toward evolving it into a Chansey. The Happiny will just need to level up once in Pokémon with this Held Item to evolve. Fortunately, there are multiple ways to obtain Oval Stones in Pokémon BSDP, and each method can be used throughout different points in the game.

How To Get Oval Stones in Pokemon BDSP

• The Lost Tower: This is located on Route 209 to the south of Solaceon Townin Pokémon BDSP. Enter the Lost Tower and head up to the second floor. The Oval Stone will be directly in front of a young boy trainer.
• Happiny Farming: Players can head over to the Trophy Garden and find Happiny in the wild. This Pokémon has the chance to be holding an Oval Stone. Catch it and check its Held Items to see if it has one. Continue this process until the player finds an Oval Stone. Players can also use the move ‘Thief’ to steal the item from the wild Happiny.
• The Underground: Players will unlock access to the Underground when they reach Eterna City. Go to the house near the Pokémon Center and speak with the old man to get the Pokémon Explorer Kit. This will bring players into the Underground. Here, players can mine within the walls to find Oval Stones. They are incredibly rare.

Give the Oval Stone to the Happiny and level it up during the day to get a Chansey. Players looking to get every Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex will need to do this to get Chansey. Alternatively, players can trade with a friend to get Chansey or wait for Pokémon HomePokemon Diamond and Pearl support to bring a Chansey over from the cloud service.
