Days before the Johto Tour, a data mine for Pokémon GO has revealed an expansion of Generation Seven Pokémon could be on the horizon. While Pokémon GO has slowly added new Pokémon species to the Pokédex via events in past years, including Flabébé and its evolutions for Valentine’s Day 2022, it has been over a year since a large number of Pokémon have been added at once. Generation Seven, which introduced Sun and Moon‘s Alola region, has numerous Pokémon players will likely be excited to see when out enjoying Pokémon GO adventures.

Currently, Pokémon GO does have a handful of the Alolan Form Kanto Pokémon that can be obtained via hatching eggs. This includes options like Ice-type Alolan Vulpix, and Rock/Electric-type Alolan Geodude among many others, but omits fan-favorites like Rockruff, Salandit, and Mimikyu. The expansion of Generation Seven species in Pokémon GO could also point to future events focused on adding further Generation Eight Pokémon, which have recently been released in small batches.

According to PokémonGoHub, a data mine has revealed that most of the missing Alola Pokémon now have data in Pokémon GO. The information is currently limited, with each Pokémon’s Fast and Charged attacks not available, and some species missing evolution requirements. However, Pokémon with forms like Minior and Mimikyu have data that will support all available variations, making them exciting additions to gameplay. While Niantic has not come out with an official announcement for when the Generation Seven Pokémon will debut, it is likely it will come after Pokémon GO‘s Johto Tour event, potentially as a way to celebrate the start of warmer weather.

Additionally, the information provided by PokémonGoHub states that Ultra Beasts will be included in the Generation Seven release. The powerful Pokémon include Xurkitree, Kartana, and Pheromosa among many others. Legendary and Mythical Pokémon will also be added, with players likely encountering Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, and Magearna in upcoming Raid Battle specials. Type: Null has been confirmed as well, along with its evolution Silvally, though there currently isn’t any information on Silvally’s form-changing ability. It is possible any of these Pokémon could be made available via Special Research encounters, potentially with an Alola theme.

While the addition of new Pokémon species has always been a great way to freshen gameplay, the data mine for Generation Seven Pokémon comes at an exciting time for the game. A recent 2022 roadmap for Pokémon GO has announced big updates and changes for the coming months, with Niantic revealing gameplay mechanics like the GO Battle League, Community Day events, and other features will be receiving updates to better match the developer’s vision for Pokémon GO, and make gameplay more enjoyable for players. With so much to look forward to in Pokémon GO, it could be a great year for fans of the game.
