During the current Pokémon GO event, Secrets of the Jungle, many players have not been seeing the expected amount of Meowth balloons. The Secrets of the JunglePokémon GO event is happening from now until October 10th in the mobile game. The event ties into the upcoming movie, Pokémon The Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, and brings the mythical Pokémon, Zarude, to the mobile game. The movie, also starring the mythical Pokémon, is set to premiere on Netflix sometime later this year.

Occasionally, in Pokémon GO, players will encounter Team Go Rocket. This usually happens as they float overhead in a hot air balloon. Last summer, there was also a special event that featured two of the most popular Team Rocket members, Jessie and James, in the mobile game, flying their iconic Meowth hot air balloon. Even during the original event, this encounter was on the rare side, so many fans were excited for the duo to return. While not particularly challenging opponents to face, Jessie and James were made extremely popular by the Pokémon anime series, making the ability to interact with them quite the novelty.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The game’s developer, Niantic, has announced an exciting line-up of Pokémon GO seasonal events and various raids for the month of October. But according to a Reddit post by user Majormeme on the Pokémon GO subreddit, TheSilphRoad, many players have seen a lack of Meowth balloons. One of the top comments on the post says that they only encountered the balloon once as they loaded up the game, followed by a long list of other players commenting that they had the same experience. Originally, the balloon was supposed to appear around four times a day for the lucky players. Since the event began on October 1st and many players have yet to see more than one balloon, something certainly feels off.

Some players have speculated that the Meowth balloon in Pokémon GO is simply rarer this time around, while others worry that it might be some kind of bug. Since this event is mainly focused on the new mythical Pokémon, Zarude, and the upcoming movie release, rather than the second appearance of Jessie and James, it does make sense that the Meowth balloon wouldn’t be as common. What is disappointing though is the lack of communication between Pokémon GO‘s developer, Niantic, and the players. This is especially disappointing given Niantic’s recent commitment to more transparency with Pokémon GO. Perhaps Niantic will make an announcement sometime soon addressing this issue, whether it is a bug or if the balloon is just much rarer than anticipated.

Pokémon GO has just celebrated its 5th anniversary this year after sweeping the globe during the summer of 2016. It has certainly come a long way, introducing many new features, mechanics, and Pokémon over the years. While it may not be quite as popular as it was that fateful summer, Pokémon GO continues to have a lively community and fanbase that will continue to push the game forward for the next few years.
