The Pokémon GO Tour: Johto has debuted new Shiny Pokémon from the earlier generation of the Pokémon series, adding to the Shiny hunting options for fans. Shiny hunting in Pokémon GO has become an exciting feature for the mobile app, which adapted the alternately colored Pokémon from the main series console games. Community Days and Special Research events have given players access to boosted or guaranteed Shiny encounters, and the new additions will offer fresh challenges for Shiny fans.

Shiny Hunting in Pokémon GO is different from the main series Pokémon games. Instead of Chaining encounters of the same species, or obtaining a Shiny Charm for boosted Shiny chances, players must rely on special events that target specific Pokémon species. The base Shiny odds in Pokémon GO are a potential 1 in 500 for an encounter, which is much lower than the potential 1 in 4096 that recent main series games start with. Despite the improved chances, encountering a random Shiny Pokémon outside of an odds-improving event is a rare and exciting achievement for most players.

According to PokémonGoHub and Dexerto, 10 Shiny Pokémon will debut in Pokémon GO for the Johto Tour. The list includes Girafarig, Corsola, Remoraid, Octillery, Mantine, Phanpy, Donphan, Tyrogue, Hitmontop, and Unknown J. While certain species like Girafarig and Remoriad will be appearing in the wild, others will either need to be attracted by Incense or challenged in raid battles to obtain. Tyrogue, and by evolution Hitmontop, will need to be encountered Shiny via hatching eggs. The only Pokémon with boosted Shiny odds during the Johto Tour will be Mantine and Phanpy, each of which is tied to either the Gold or Silver event ticket.

The Pokémon GO Tour: Johto is happening on February 26 from 9 AM to 9 PM local time. Players can engage in certain parts of the event without the purchase of the event ticket, but only ticket holders will be able to access boosted Shiny odds, Speach Research and Masterwork Research, themed-hourly challenges, and many other features. For those who aren’t interesting in purchasing the ticket, however, the Shiny Pokémon debuting with the event will be available for everyone at full odds, and will still be available to encounter Shiny after the event has concluded.

Players will also want to keep an eye out for exciting Five-Star Raid opportunities throughout the day. Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Ho-oh, and Lugia will be appearing in Five-Star Raids, alongside Mega Raids for Mega Ampharos. Players will also be able to get a Galarian Zigzagoon, Espurr, or Sneasel from One-Star Raid battles, which is likely good news for those who have been grinding Candy for powerful Pokémon like Obstagoon. With so many Shiny encounters and battle opportunities, Pokémon GO players will likely have plenty to do both during and after the Johto Tour event.
