Pokémon Go is teaming up with Verizon to get players some sweet gear for their in-game avatar for free. The wildly-popular augmented reality mobile game has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, thanks to the recent additions of PvP trainer battles and the Go Battle League, which lets players battle their Pokémon with other trainers across the world. As a result, Pokémon Go had one of its best years ever in 2020, becoming one of the most widely used, and most profitable, mobile games in the world today.

This is not the first time that Pokémon Go has collaborated with companies for in-game loot. Back in January, a limited-time crossover event with Gucci and The North Face gave players a promo code to collect in-game cosmetic items. The event was designed so that players wouldn’t have to leave the comfort of their own home to acquire the cosmetics, and encourage players to be safe amid the current global pandemic. This is following an event in October 2020 where Pokémon Go celebrated Paris Fashion Week, which featured new player accessories and special clothed Pokémon that players could encounter in the wild.

Per a report from The Gamer, the latest collaboration between Verizon and Pokémon Go will provide players with a promo code that will give them exclusive Verizon-branded items for their avatar. These include Verizon facemasks and a sweatshirt sporting the Verizon logo, for both a male and female avatar. To redeem this promo (code LRQEV2VZ59UDA), players simply need to go into the Pokémon Go app, go to the “Shop” menu, and enter the code into the “Promos” entry bar. For players on iOS, they can also visit Niantic’s code redeem portal, log in using their credentials, and enter the code there.

Even though players may balk at the look of these highly-branded outfits in Pokémon Go, it’s likely that many will jump at the chance to get a free new avatar outfit. This is especially appetizing for players who are newer to Pokémon Go and don’t have as many cosmetics for their avatar, or just for players who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a free-to-play game.

Regardless, the fact that Pokémon Go is able to continue finding partners for crossover events is reassuring for the future of the game. With more collaborations and investments, alongside its surging popularity, it seems likely that Pokémon Go is here to stay for a while. And these crossover events not only give more capital to Niantic to continue improving the game, but they also give players more free content to play around with.

Pokemon Go is available now on iOS and Android.
