Keeping in line with all the other celebrations, Pokémon GO is set to begin an event celebrating the Hoenn region. 2021 marks 25 years of success for the Pokémon franchise, so different forms of appreciation and celebration have begun, starting with a nostalgia-filled video tribute. Combined with rumors that there will be a massive Pokémon Direct in February, and the next few weeks are shaping up to be one of the biggest Pokémon celebrations ever.

The aforementioned tribute also gave a nod to Pokémon GO towards the end, showing that (obviously) the game will play a role in celebrating the festivities. Pokémon GO has been preparing a 12-hour Kanto themed event for a long while now, but it has also been rolling out other events leading up to it that allow every trainer to join in (since the Kanto tour requires an in-game purchase to partake).

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Yesterday, the Pokémon GO team posted an update outlining the different Hoenn themed events happening next week. Beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m (local time) and running for five days until Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 8:00 p.m., trainers will be able to, “Enjoy event-exclusive Field Research tasks that reward Stardust and lead to encounters with Pokémon such as Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Aron, Plusle, Minun, and Wailmer.” Several Gen 3 Pokémon will also have their spawn rates increased, namely Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Taillow, Loudred, Nosepass, Aron, Meditite, Roselia, Carvanha, Numel, Baltoy.

5km eggs will also have an increased chance of spawning Skitty, Aron, Corphish, Lileep, Anorith, Bagon, and Beldum (the latter two are incredibly viable in PvP battles once fully evolved). Lastly, different tier raids will also feature prominent gen 3 Pokémon as bosses: Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Aron, and Bagon at tier one, Breloom, Mawile, Grumpig, Spinda, and Absol at tier three, and Kyogre and Groudon at tier five. However, with yet another surge of coronavirus cases leading to lockdowns in several countries, the update states that “A free bundle featuring three Remote Raid Passes to help you challenge Kyogre and Groudon.”

Add in that Rayquaza will be available for trainers who complete the timed research task, and next week looks to be one of the biggest celebrations of the Hoenn region in Pokémon GO. Several of the Pokémon that will be available next week are incredibly powerful in the PvP scene, particularly Groudon, Kyrogre, Metagross, and Swampert, so for battle oriented trainers, the event will be a chance to bolster their teams. And, for trainers not so interested in the GO battle leagues, these Pokémon will also be incredibly useful for taking on the Team Rocket GO leaders in Pokémon GO.
