The Team GO Rocket Strikes Back event is currently active in Pokémon Go. Like many of the other limited-time events, this one also features its own set of exclusive Field Research Tasks and rewards. This is acting as the second half of the Power Plant event, an event dedicated to Electric-type Pokémon. Pokémon Go even introduced Heliolisk and Helioptile, two popular Electric-type Pokémon from the Kalos region, to the game for the very first time.

The second half of the Pokémon Go Power Plant event is heavily focused on taking down members of Team GO Rocket. It will take place from Monday, January 24th at 12 am local time to Tuesday, February 1st at 10 am local time. They are directly responsible for capturing Pokémon and closing their hearts, transforming them into fighting machines. Once the player defeats the Team Rocket Grunt, they can capture a Shadow Pokémon and purify its heart. Much of this event Field Research is dedicated to taking down Team GO Rocket.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In order to unlock new Team Go Rocket Strikes Field Research Tasks, the player will need to swipe at PokéStops. Completing one of these per day will work towards the Research Breakthrough. Unlocking this will give players free items and a rare encounter. The Field Research Tasks that come from this event will be labeled with an ‘event’ sticker. Since players are only able to keep three Field Research tasks at a time, toss out ones that have no current use to make room.

Team GO Rocket Strikes Back Field Research Tasks (& Rewards) in Pokémon Go

Completing these tasks gives players the chance to find rare encounters and even Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

  • Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon: Electrike, Joltik, or Helioptile encounter.
  • Walk 1 km: Helioptile encounter.
  • Walk 4km: Emolga encounter.
  • Defeat 2 Team GO Rocket Grunts: Ekans, Skorupi, or Croagunk encounter.
  • Make 3 Curveball Throws: Magnemite or Voltorb encounter.
  • Take 2 snapshots of wild Electric-type Pokémon: 25 Mega Ampharos Energy or 25 Mega Manectric Energy.
  • Catch 5 Pokémon: 5 Super Potions, 2 Hyper Potions, or 1 Revive.

Electrike, Magnemite, Voltorb, Ekans, Skorupi, Alolan Grimer, and Trubbish all have the chance of appearing Shiny. The odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon through a Field Research task is 1/450. Although, a handful of Pokémon does have a higher encounter rate. Overall, it’s completely luck-based and shouldn’t be something players are actively looking for unless they really want them. The best Shiny encounters are the ones the player doesn’t anticipate. The Mega Energy is also a useful reward for players looking to complete their Mega Evolution Pokédex.
