In preparation for the upcoming event, Pokémon GO recently unveiled that fans will have a chance to encounter Celebi as well as Shiny Gyarados during the Johto Tour. The in-game festivities are set for February 26, 2022, and will be similar to the Kanto Tour that occurred around the same time last year.

Fans already have access to a good amount of information regarding what they can expect for Pokémon GOTour: Johto. Tickets to participate in the event are now on sale for $11.99 USD and will give players access to unique tasks and challenges during the event. 12 new Shiny Pokémon will be added to the mobile title during the Johto Tour, finalizing the addition of all Shiny Pokémon that originated from Pokémon Gold and Silver to the augmented reality title. As the date draws closer, Niantic has become more forthcoming with some new details for February’s event and claims it will continue to do so in the coming days.

Pokémon GO disclosed some of the rewards that players can expect for completing the special research tasks available during the Johto Tour. Beyond acquiring items to evolve Pokémon and Rocket Radar pieces, fans can be treated to encounters with Celebi as well as Shiny Gyarados for their hard work. Catching the former pocket monster during this event will allow Celebi to know the attack Magical Leaf. Before players can do any of this, however, they will first be met with not only choosing between Gold version and Silver version, but also which Pokémon out of Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile will accompany them on their adventure. The Pokémon that is chosen will be involved in a player’s tasks for the duration of the tour.

Fans who purchase their tickets for Pokémon GOTour: Johto prior to February 10 will be treated to the Season of Heritage February Timed Research. This bonus content features research tasks that reward players with a Noibat Hat Avatar Item as well as an encounter with the flying, dragon-type Pokémon. Those who wish to have access to and wish to take advantage of this opportunity can do so by logging into the game between February 1 and February 10.

Last year’s Pokémon GOTour: Kanto event was met with success and praise, especially in comparison to some previous events in the augmented reality title. While Niantic will certainly want to replicate what has worked in the past for 2022, it remains to be seen just how much will be different for this year’s tour. As successful as previous events were, the formula needs to change enough to prevent Pokémon GO from becoming stale.
